At a certain point, you can only push hip injuries so far. I've fortunately only had temporary ones, but they are brutal. Extreme pain when getting in and out of chairs, being unable to shift your body when your laying down without extreme pain, an inability to walk without assistance, etc... much worse than injuring your knee, ankle, etc... or probably even your back.

Anaheim: McTavish + 1st + McQueen
LA: Clarke + 1st + Byfield
Utah: Iginla + 1st + 2nd

Seeing Iginla play for Toronto would really bother me.

As always, an important consideration is how many teams Matthews would be open to going to.

The other two are possible, but I can't imagine he's limiting himself to those three. Which is why I think it's BS.

All of these are overpays. Toronto fans better start tempering their expectation, now.

Matthews is damaged goods. I don't think Utah is trading Tij to Toronto unless Armstrong loses his mind.

I highly doubt anyone gives that type of package for a 29 yr old seemingly broken Matthews, any GM that does will likely be signing his own pink slip.

Seems to me that LA would easily give up that package for someone like matthews. They've been dangling Byfield all year for reasons hard to determine.

It would be more ideal than Utah in my opinion… since, they will 100% #### it up like they always do and maybe we can sign him later. If he’s in Utah, he’s the franchise.

It's an fun 'Conditional Pick' tree:
It depends what happens with their pick this year.
Their 2026 1st Round Pick is Top 5 Protected with Boston, their 2027 1st Round Pick is Top 10 protected with Phily, so…
If they pick in the Top 5 this year, they keep their 2026 1st Rounder and the 2027 1st Rounder slides where if it is outside the Top 10, Philly gets the pick and Boston receives an unprotected 2028 1st Round Pick. If the 2027 pick is in the top 10, Toronto gets to choose whether Philly or Boston gets that pick and the other gets the 2028 unprotected 1st Rounder.
If the Leafs pick outside the Top 5 this year, Boston gets the 2026 pick. If the 2027 pick is outside the Top 10, Philly gets it, but if it is in the Top 10 then the Leafs have the option to push it to a 2028 unprotected 1st Rounder.
So there is the potential that a 5th Overall Pick this year could see the Leafs lose two 1st Overall Picks in a row if that kind of thinking gets you excited.

Trading him would be the right move as the Leafs need to tear it down but Matthews has been on a year over year decline and the team that trades for him won't be receiving the 50 goal, 100 point Matthews. Time will tell and a change of scenery will do him good but to me he looks like a player that may have peaked early.

Best seasons at 23 and 25.
That’s actually more normal than the late 20s peak. Especially for guys who start at 18
I think it’s entirely possible he peaked in his most athletic years and after 5-7 years experience which is quite normal experience wise . Most guys just start in the NHL at 20-21

Wasn't Berger the reporter who was caught (or accused of) plagiarizing?
Not that this has anything to do with the rumor, but the talk of how he fell off the map. But does bring trust into the conversation.
