Scary thing is we likely need Ras and Hanifin to step up against the Oilers in the first round matchup of two teams that shouldn't be in the playoffs

I'm confused. What's the argument about?
Andersson is not playing good with VGK since the trade. He did not play good with the Flames before the trade.
This is supported by facts & statistics. He was actually bad last season as well. You know the season where he was -38 (which people will justify) but also was terrible all-around while calling out the fans at the end of the season.
Why can't we just leave it there?

FWIW In the 3 last seasons Ras is -52 which puts him 12th worst overall and 3rd worst as a defensemen. Behind Mario Ferraro and Jamie Drysdale as Dmen.
Sharangovich is 9th worst and Huberdeau is 13 worst.
Bedard and Eklund are tied for worst at -83.
I know being a top Dman on a bad team means you will usually have an awful +/- but it is interesting he hasn't been very good and also gets to play against he cake walk of the pacific.

He was playing quite well before the trade on pace for a career high in goals, close to 50 points and on the positive side of +/-. He's struggled with the Knights but really the entire team is struggling. I don't understand why some of you love to crap on ex-Flames so much. Drafted and developed Flame who enjoyed his time here, has nothing bad to say about the organization or city and it's like some of you are giddy that he's struggling in his next stop.

I'm honestly surprised that a team as cut throat as Vegas has not changed the coach. Cassidy is a bit like Daryl Sutter where he's going to grind on players and they just time him out.

Yeah, InternationalVillager saying Rasmus Anderson calling out the fans last year was a negative against him.

We have a really, really, really good fan base. We talked about the 90 per cent the other day, I feel like I’ve got to address it,” Andersson said. “I feel like 90 per cent is a really high number in a fan base to have good fans. For us as a player, when you think about the 90 per cent, the 10 per cent we are talking about is the ones who say, ‘Oh, team tank. We’ve got to lose, we’ve got to lose.’
“No player in the NHL ever wants to lose a game, I can guarantee you that. Especially here, losing is never an option. That’s what I love about this team. We want to win every game. If you’re cheering for us to lose, I’m sorry but I don’t think you’re a real fan.”
|
I'm in the group he's calling out but good for him. He's a professional athlete and wants to win. Some of you really gonna get offended at that?

The only really "meh" return so far was maybe the Hanifin trade because Miromanov didn't figure it out in Calgary, but the first round pick from that trade is still TBD and has been steadily rising since CC sent them double agent Ras.

I mean Ras did basically force the Flames to trade him to Vegas and turned down a 8x9M or so contract with Boston to kill a deal Conroy spent weeks negotiating. Flames also own the Knights next two firsts so him and the Knights playing poorly does help the Flames.

People thought the Markstrom trade was meh, but Bahl has been fantastic.

Those were pretty terrible takes it was the best goalie trade in a decade or more. Just getting a 1st for a goalie that age who wasnt exactly playing grest was a miracle

Yeah, there are people that think every trade is "meh" at the time of the trade. I'm talking more about looking back at CC's trades with hindsight.
IMO the Hanifin one was the only one where the return might seem light in hindsight. I mean that return pales when compared to the return CC got for Ras.

Yeah. This was one where Conroy's hands were tied even more than with Rasmus.
Hell, all of Conroy's trades this year had difficulties as far as retention slots, NTCs, limited re-signing targets, etc. He did very well.

But this is where you're wrong though. We have the stats to back it up. He had a WAR of 18% with the Flames this season.
He went on a bender between Nov 11 - Dec 10, 2025.
He had 17 points in those 15 games. That absurd hot streak pretty much delivered for the Flames the return they ended up getting.
Since then, he has 15 pts in 38 games.
I'm not crapping on ex-Flames. Prior to 24-25 season, he was great. Over the last 2 years, he has not been that good.
I'm not saying that he can't turn it around either in the future. He definitely can but to say that he was great to the day that the Flames traded him is factually incorrect.

Let me re-post this again in case you missed it. Starting 24-25, he fell off a cliff.

No hard feelings Ras. Anyone who wants the Flames to take the steps necessary to become a cup contender within a reasonable amount of time, to me is a real fan. Agree to disagree!!

There’s a difference between positioning yourself to get the best draft picks possible and cheering for losses.
I believe he was calling out those cheering for losses which, as a professional athlete, is completely reasonable.

Conroy is a intelligent hockey guy, always has been. Been an advocate for him to be GM for a while now and was overjoyed when Treliving left and he took over. People judging him for his affable chatty personality away from the game didn't understand what a intense person he can be. The relationship between him and Treliving was almost non existent. They call Darryl Sutter toxic but Treliving had his own brand of it, same smartest guy in the room mentality that Jay Feaster and Wisebrod had.
Conroy listens, for as much as he talks he listens and he isn't a push over. The Flames have some smart hockey people in management and Craig doesn't seclude himself like some weirdo.

There's also a difference between cheering for losses vs begrudgingly accepting the fact that losses are the price that must be paid to get an elite franchise player in the draft.
That said, no one is expecting players to give less than their full effort, or do anything other than play to win. No one is asking players to be ok with losing.
So maybe it was just a case of him not choosing his words carefully enough. As a Flames player, it's not ok to say that 10% of Flames fans aren't real fans.
