Jay Random and I had a spat? We interacted like twice and it was nothing. Come on man. Let's let it end, but if you're going to throw stuff like that on the end of your posts I'm going to reply.

Yeah there are some posters who the ignore feature just suits really well. Dramatically improved my experience and I now hate visiting the site while not logged in.

If that's the only thing from what I said that you disagree with we may finally be on to something.

Good sign!

Y’all gotta figure out that these back-and-forths have a natural end, and chiming in with your own personal attacks and airing of long-standing gripes because you want it to end is self-defeating behaviour as all it does is continue it with your involvement.

Neither poster seems like they need to be defended or singled out. Pretty easy to scroll past once you know they’re just turning on the release valve for a bit.

Being passive aggressive is still aggressive, Bingo. Maybe not above it. To be clear I said I'd let the thread get back on topic so I didn't reply to the rest but wanted to address the thing that wasn't true. If you want this to continue or you want a full list of usernames message me, I really don't care. This is truly boring now and at least dino and I were talking hockey.

You do you.

I wasn't alone in getting tired of the snipe fest.

I think an honest olive branch to knock it off is better than just saying screw it and having someone banned.

Let them argue! Otherwise they'll take it out in people in real life who actually matter to them! Plus it's basically the off-season soon and they need to warm up for when there's no hockey to argue about.

Interesting tidbit from the Athletic this AM from a story regarding the infamous Minten-Carlo trade:

"The Leafs' primary target for an upgrade on the blue line was...Rasmus Anderson...However those discussions broke off...a day before the deadline - when the Flames backed away from the table."

It would be easy to assume that the Flames could have had the Minten package, and likely plus as Anderson had a better reputation than Carlo IMO.

Flames could have had at least:
-Minten (future 2C)
-2026 1st (looking to be top 10)
-2025 4th

As good as the Whitecloud trade is looking, it bothers me that we walked away from this deal, in addition to the Brock Nelson package which I am sure was a possibility as well.

While what you say is probably true and I agree with it, I would wait to see what the Vegas package ends up becoming. With the way Vegas is trending, who knows what the pick is in 2027? Who knows what Wiebe ends up becoming - I had him as a complete 'throw-in' that may not even get signed, and he is quickly becoming a very interesting piece that I expect the Flames to sign and give him a game this season. Whitecloud has been a great addition, and who knows if he becomes a long-term piece for the Flames, and if not, what he ends up returning on his own.

I was a slightly disappointed at first with the trade, and part of it was looking at the Carlo trade. However, there are a lot of moving parts, and I think this was an absolute home-run that has the potential to be even much better than the package that Toronto paid for Carlo.

Johnston also says Leafs second choice was Ristolainen but the price was too high.

I think the Leaf one is fair to look back and discuss but it looks way better with the benefit of hindsight. At the time it looked like a later 1st and B prospect. Not much to bemoan on the Nelson trade imo, I don't think Kadri was waiving

I don't think BT was going to offer anything near that for Andersson, which is why talks broke off. Then BT panicked and loaded up the dump truck for Carlo lol.

Thing is, there was no indication that the Leafs would suck so badly, so the position of the 1st couldn't be predicted.

On Minten, somehow I recall his name coming up and no one was impressed here at all. He's blossomed a bit with Boston, but I think the Flames have 2C prospects that look better.

I was always high on minten and his potential, that trade would have been great in hindsight. But the Leafs are also probably better over a full season with rasmus instead of Castillo.

I think this is probably closest to the truth.

Given the (alleged) strained relationship between Treliving and Flames ownership I'd bet the ask was more from the Flames and the offering was less from the Leafs.

One also has to keep in mind that the Andersson trade tree isn't complete yet. Whitecloud may be dealt. And even if not, he arguably made Weegar expendable.

Totally. Lots of reasons why a deal wouldn't have been the same for Calgary.

Andersson was having a poor year and although Treleving would have been high on him, he wouldn't have been offering a premium as there were question marks that Andersson might not return to his pre-injury form.

Toronto would have likely required salary retention on Andersson as they were right up near the cap and Andersson earned a million more than Carlo. That would have been a sticking point for the Flames. They would retain, but they require a premium for it--while other teams negotiate it as the cost to get a deal done.

Most importantly from that article, the Carlo deal was done last minute and BT was absolutely desperate at that point to do something (especially getting a RD) -- after not being able to move Marner and a few other things falling through.

He and Shanahan likely believed that if the team went far enough into the playoffs, Marner may be convinced to stay. Shanahan is even quoted in the story nervously asking Treleving if the deal was done in time, as it just got filed before the deadline. There was LOTS of pressure on Treleving at the close of that deadline to get desperate with the payment. And he did.

I think agonizing over this one is unnecessary.

Instead, focus anxiety on the Flames' potentially trading their own top 5 picks in the next few drafts to try to short the rebuild process. That at least has potential as ticket sales fall and ownership loses patience.

It's funny looking back, when the trade went down I saw it as:

2027 1st - excellent, though anticipating a very late 1st
2028 2nd - likely a late 2nd that cancels out making the 2026 Vegas 1st worse
Whitecloud - cap dump
Wiebe - 7th rounder

I'm pretty sure I voted fair deal then but between Vegas's struggles and the players' performances every single impression above appears wrong in a very good way.

Such a good trade. Between all these fantastic futures moves and the culture it seems we've been able to still maintain through it I hope Conroy has a looooong tenure in the GM seat. When he got the job I was rooting for him because who doesn't love Connie, but seeing him learn, grow, and excel in the role is fantastic.

Hey leave me out of this! No way can BigThief be like me when it comes to abrasiveness.

So uh, is this true or not? BigThief's announcement in OT that he's been made a moderator??? The full opposite of moderator material. Or is it an April Fools joke and BigThief got his dates mixed up?

Its actually shockingly bad Brad only got that pick top 5 protected and not top 10. Currently its likely just outside.
