I thought your take was totally reasonable, even if someone might not agree with it. Not sure why it received such an emotion and combative reaction.
Yeah, I didnt think it was an unreasonable take to say that Gridin and Bryz playing on the flames last night was a direct result of trading Lindholm 2 years ago.
Nor was it an unreasonable take to say that Bahl playing on the team was a direct result of Markstrom being traded 1.5 years ago.
I also didnt think that it was an unreasonable take to indicate that trading markstom 1.5 years ago opened up ice time for Wolf to play.
I also didnt think it was an unreasonable take to say that theyre helping this team (win)...because, um, they have.
Gridin reminds me Howie Morenz, whom I watched 15 or 20 times.
Spoiler!

“The team is trying to build a culture and a confidence moving forward, and having been a part of this before, I know that it's a huge piece of it. So I think the traits that we're showing now are great things that will bleed into next season.”
Beyond his elite skill, Gridin's size/physicality really impress me for his age. That OT play with him protecting the puck was a good example of that. I remember watching him in the prospect tournament last year, there was a play where he tried a toe-drag around a defender but the d-man tried to step up on him. Instead of losing the puck Gridin just bowled over him and continued forward. If he can develop his defensive game and continue putting on size, a Hossa comparable isn't out of the question.
Kadri was losing interest by the game and Weegar was having a tough season. So not really surprised that trading them and then bringing in 3 veterans with somethings to prove has resulted in a little pop in energy and results. Dont think it means much for next year honestly but makes the games a little more watchable.

Cooper may be a great coach (according to McDavid), but he must not be a very good evaluator of other coaches.
Quote:
“Listen, Ryan (Huska) does a heck of a job here,” said Jon Cooper, whose Lightning had just been stunned 4-3 by the Flames.
“I like the way they play, their structure. There’s guys who played on other teams who weren’t fits, like Stromer. He is a hell of a player. He was just on a hell of a team in Anaheim.
“The Flames lost some big pieces here, but you get the hunger of some of these young guys that come in and want to make impressions this year, but also next. They’ve got a whole boatload of 'em out there. Good on them, they’re a tough team to play against, and I like what they’re doing.

And I also expect the post-trade streaks that Strome and Maatta are on (and now Olofsson) will cool and the team will regress to the norm.
Guys like Strome, Whitecloud, Olofsson (I'd sit him lol), and Maatta have played really well as cap dumps.
They talked about this a bit on Barn Burner a little while back. They suggested trying to pump up Oloffson could be a bigger picture thing. Even though he is unlikely in the Flames plans next year, he's a veteran player not only playing for another contract right now but possibly even playing to stay in the league. His agent is pretty influential (Claude Lemieux) and represents some pretty big players, so there is probably some pressure to maintain that relationship and not let them down.

Definitely some post-trade bumps happening with a few individual players. Guys felt slighted and want to make a statement.
If we weren't hoping to finish low I'd be really excited for these three guys. The cognitive dissonance as a fan has been rough.
The bigger issue seems to be playing at home. They're a much better team at the Dome (which is great for ticket holders). Getting away should, hopefully, slow their roll.
Ever notice that the lighting in the Flames arena gives everything a dingy yellow tinge? Makes the ice look like frozen used toilet water.

This camera angle is so unorthodox in Calgary

Typical lightning hockey. They were all over them in the 1st but chose to play patty cake until Calgary realized we have our ice cold back up in net. Now we’re playing from behind with no legs. Also idk why coop has chosen to break up his best line of kuch tony and hagel

JoJo, take notes. They have an actual goalie.

The entire team gasps when shots are fired in JJ's direction
Quote:
Oh look, another JoJo start, another 5+ goals allowed incoming. And ppl wonder why the team just phones it in much of the time he starts. When you know you have to score 5 or 6 to win every time, it can't be great for any team morale. At least two more losses guaranteed as well after tonight.
Stromer in OT!
Quote:
JoJo having an .860 save percentage across his last 12 appearances is just ghastly. We had games with 5, 4, and 7 goals scored that netted us 0 points. This is worse than last season of McBackup and Elliott territory in this time frame, obviously your backup goalie in general isn't likely to be "good" and when you have an undisputed #1 even moreso since playing time opportunities don't figure to exist, it just would be nice if Johansson was better than this.
Quote:
Holy f*** this guy is SUCH garbage

W.e happy to get one point with that useless knob in net

D-zone coverage was terrible all night. Even on the last goal, Cirelli was not looking at his guy in front of the net. They battled back, but it was their lousy play, against a bad team, that put them in a tough spot to begin with.

Must be a dig at Edmonton announcers.

I've got bad news for them if Calgary has 4 goals.

Funny thing about this stat is that the 1st win of this streak started on december 16th 2023 but in that same week on the 11th and 12th they scored 4 or more goals and lost both games.

Great win! You shouldn't be too concerned with finishing in 2nd or 6th. Go run the simulator, it just doesn't matter. I seem to have more 5th or 6th place teams getting the 1st overall pick anyways, and many many times the 1st and 2nd teams get bumped down.
Happy with wins, happy with losses.
The first and second teams have the best odds of getting the highest floor and ceiling for their picks. Of course it matters where they finish, even if it doesn’t guarantee 1OA or 2OA
