Recommend (or don't) a movie thread v2

Just got back from it. I'm with Photon. It's a wonderfully good adaptation of the source material. I loved it. I'd personally have changed a tiny things here and there, but overall, I'm not in charge, and they made a great movie.

What I found particularly noteworthy is that in the entire 2.5 hrs of the movie, not ONCE did I see some putz with their phone out, nor did I see any of the 'phone glow' from someone "just checking something fast". I was also impressed with there being almost no side-conversations with yapping teens. There are several points in the movie where it's completely silent...and in our theatre, you could have heard a pin drop.

The guy beside me seemed to be narrating it to someone. He was alone and a capital n nerd so not to bad.

I had to look away withe spinning because i was getting dizzy from that.

Yeah, our whole theatre was captivated. It was pretty cool. The movie feels like it’s from a time and place outside of our own. Which I suppose is the point of sci-fi, but they really nailed it. I think this will age well. The longer I ruminate on it, the more I like it.

Really enjoyed it. Not as much as I like the Martian but I think the Martian is a 10 out of 10 movie. I like that it took some chances. Definitely a feel good movie.

It was even funnier than I anticipated. Had a real family vibe to it to the point where it was almost silly. The Martian got pretty lighthearted but I would still classify as more of an adult drama science fiction movie. Obviously not the same film makers but same author of the source material so I can’t help but compare them.

Having not read the book yet and not being overly familiar with the source material I absolutely loved the sort of twist near the end that he didn’t go willingly. It explained a lot of stuff about earlier in the movie when he just woke up, his attitude and cluelessness. It also made his redemption all the more satisfying.

I can’t wait to read this and get all of the additional details and then watch the movie again.

I quite like that they hand waved away a number of things instead of getting bogged down in the logic or scientific plausibility. Keeps the story moving and it’s easy enough to just accept that they are possible.

And even though it gave a very satisfying resolution to grace and Rocky’s story it didn’t feel the need to overexplain what happened back on earth.

Now y'all have me super excited. I just now finished the last page of the book and have tickets for tomorrow night!

100% recommend the book to all those who watched the movie going in blind. Read it over the course of a week and it took maybe 8-9 hours total. Very light and fun to read.

Honestly, that they would change or even soften that twist from the book was one of my biggest worries. It's so very fundamental to Grace's growth, redemption and gives his decision to return to help Rocky at the cost of his own life so much more gravitas. I'm so glad that they kept it almost basically as it was in the book.

I absolutely loved Life of Chuck, what a fantastic bittersweet film. It was beautiful, heart breaking and hilarious at times as well, plus it gets bonus points for showing a scene involving Blockbuster video. It's a must watch, probably top 5 Stephen King movie for me.
