Man 10:30pm start to watch Hail Mary was way too late. I liked the Martian a lot more. One too many Marvel-type jokes in this one. 7/10.

That was my only gripe with Project Hail Mary, the lame jokes made me roll my eyes but the crowd I was with were laughing out loud. I was thinking they were all just excited to be catching it early and big fans. I guess it's possible people like that corny stuff.

Project Hail Mary - as someone who read and loved the book, I’m giving it an 8/10. If I hadn’t read the book and just came in fresh, probably a 9/10.
Really really well done. The spirit of the book holds up. Definitley campy in parts, but the heart of the story really does shine.

Just watched Project Hail Mary tonight.
Thoughts?
Amaze! Amaze! Amaze!
The trailer raised my expectations, and it more than exceeded them. What a true adaptation of the book. I laughed, got a bit teary eyed, and laughed some more, and smiled even more, just as I did reading and listening to the book.
Ryan Gosling was perfection for the role. How they adapted Rocky, is exactly how I would have envisioned him.
I can't recommend this movie enough.

I never thought about that... I think it would enhance. Haha
And it might also make that $56 more palatable. Lol. I do remember when it was cheap ... Many moons ago ...

I'm going today (3:30 showing) with my wife and 4 other friends. I bought the tickets so that we could all be sure to sit together and they'll be paying me back.
Nearly $140. For "normal" seats. No DBox, no 3D, no fancy options. Just 6 standard seats. That's just to walk in the door. Never mind any food or anything. Then 'they' have the gall to wonder why 'going to the movies' is a dying thing.

Pre-COVID everything was still priced reasonably from food to the movie theater.
Theaters had to bump their entry fees coming out of the pandemic because they were making nothing for a couple of years. But then they kept those prices and just built on them. Then I guess they added those reward programs to throw people a bone with one freebie every month. But that's pretty measly all things considered. And recently I swear they shrink-flationed their bag/cup sizes.
Now I just pick up a drink from the convenience store on the way rather than pay 7-8 dollars for a fountain drink. Or 5 bucks for a water, which is asinine.

I think I paid $24 each for laser ultra regular admission recliner seats. Obviously scales up fast if you’re paying for your partner or kids but I’m going with friends so we each paid our own.
Seems like great value honestly. It would be min 5-10x the cost to go to the flames game tomorrow. I struggle to think of any other paid activity that will provide as mich entertainment for 3 hours that’s as cheap.
And I don’t even find the snacks very expensive anymore comparatively. A bag of candy is about $6 which is exactly how much those same snacks cost at shoppers or sev.

The theatres are far better than they used to be, so there's that. And real butter is available.
####ing Southland theatres had floors that sloped up towards the screen.

The movie theatre here in High River charges $10 to see a movie. I can also get a popcorn and drink for another 10 bucks. Large screen and great sound system. Despite all that residents here are very picky about the movies they want to see and don't support theatre very well. I would argue further that streaming is what is killing the movie theatre business. People would rather watch movies on their big screen TV's and eat thier own food.

Ok I loved it. Like a digestible Interstellar. A buddy film when there are no buddys.
Desolte and depressing but uplifting.

That's a cool little theater, love it. I can't remember stopping in or driving through High River before but thinking I should hit up a movie there this spring. Used to do the same thing while spending the day in Banff once the sun goes down.

Do they accept those $30 Costco Cineplex / Landmark passes for the movie?

Saw Hail Mary with my family last night. I'd say a solid 7.5 out of 10. Very well made, Gosling was great, Rocky was great. Good music, great effects. Was very much entertained.
It's about as good as an adaptation of the novel as you could get, felt very faithful (though it's been quite a while since I read it).
It doesn't really crack my list of top 20 science fiction movies of all time though, but I think that's more to do with the source material than the movie itself. Maybe on the top 100 though.
