Kushner and Witkoff. So knowledgeable on nuclear matters they saw it fit to not take a technical team with them.
Would be interesting to hear what Mr Grossi's takeaway from the meeting was and what he told Kushner and Witkoff. You'd think that would carry significant weight. Particularly by what the Brits took away from the meeting.

Seems pretty obvious that Bibi sensed a deal might happen and he attacked before that could occur. They were thirsty for this war and knew if the deal got signed they couldn’t do it.

Totally.
Now attempting to escalate it with rogue attacks on the gas field.
Americans distancing themselves from any involvement in the attack and publicly scolding Israel whilst sending a message to Iran that they've told Israel to cease and desist.

That's 17% of Qatar's LNG capacity wiped out for 3-5 years (so far!). Considering that Qatar is the 2nd highest LNG producing country in the world for a product that is highly localized that's a huge blow.
Maybe they want that plane back they gave Trump?
And Trump ranting on Truth Social about Israel's attack, yet threatening Iran that the US will destroy all of the South Pars
South Pars / Northern Dome is a shared natural gas fields that is by far the world's largest field. Threatening to blow up the entirety of the South Pars (which would assuredly see increased retaliation by Iran) is pure insanity.
Really the world still hasn't truly clued in on how colossally disastrous this war is and Trump has completely lost control. We don't even know the US's objective at this point because everything is being done by whatever thought of the minute gets in Trump's head.

So you’re saying Trump rushed into a high profile move without fully thinking it through, made a spectacle of it, realized it was a mistake, backed off in a way that actually made things worse, and is now walking away declaring it a win?
Is this a new strategy of 5D chess? I can't remember this happening before.

Iran has just attacked 2 oil refineries in Kuwait (Mina Al-Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah) though it seems both are contained.
Meanwhile, Canada joined a group of nations supporting the opening of the Strait of Hormuz (which instantly caused oil to drop ~10% on the news).
Add to this that the US wants to remove sanctions from *checks notes* Iran so they can export oil.

If the price of gas hits $5/gallon in rural red states, Trump loses everything.
That's the Iranian goal.
Wouldn't have predicted it, but that's where we appear to be headed.

US gas prices soaring above the $4 per gallon level and the $5 per gallon levels typically translate into political tensions with the incumbent administration
U.S. Gas Prices Top $3.5, Approaching Trump's $4 Political Threshold
https://www.chosun.com/english/world...JVQ4GHLEGOLPE/
Excerpt:
In U.S. political circles, there is a widely accepted analysis that gasoline prices exceeding a certain level directly impact the president's approval rating, known as the "political threshold." Generally, the $3.5 per gallon level is considered the starting point of political tension, and prices surpassing $4 per gallon often lead to significant political repercussions.
Historically, surging oil prices have significantly impacted U.S. politics. In the lead-up to the 2008 financial crisis, gasoline prices nearing $4 per gallon spread economic instability. In 2011, as prices approached $4 per gallon again due to Middle East instability, political pressure on the Barack Obama administration intensified. During Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, gasoline prices exceeding $5 per gallon contributed to a decline in former President Joe Biden's approval rating.

Iran threatens world tourist sites.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/iran-h...nery-9.7135780
Quote:
Iran threatened to target recreational and tourist sites worldwide and insisted it was still building missiles on Friday — a show of defiance nearly three weeks into U.S.-Israeli strikes that have killed several of Tehran's top leaders and hammered its weapons and energy industries.
Iran's top military spokesman warned that "parks, recreational areas and tourist destinations" worldwide won't be safe for Tehran's enemies.

It's the only language MAGA understands. Most don't follow politics. They literally think they have a business genius working for them - "looking after the little guy".
But when they need to fill up at $5 suddenly their political reality hits at a consistent and very front of mind place.

I'm not suggesting it's "good", but Iran's attacks on gulf state allies and energy operations has been a very strong strategy.
Knowing they can't just fight Isrealmerica head on and engaging this strategy seems to be pretty smart.

I don't see the two things as all that similar. You can disagree with the tactics, but at least the territories are within the region and related to the conflict with Iran and their proxies. Targeting civilian tourists around the world, in regions that have nothing to do with this conflict, is a whole different level of escalation and madness. They did it before in the past as well, so it's a credible threat. In 2012, Iran sponsored terrorists killed tourists in Bulgaria for example.
As for why it is news, I guess Iran thought it was newsworthy enough to notify the media about the threat and pretty much every major media outlet picked it up. In general, anything that points to escalation and the overall folly of Trump's war should be news worthy.

Iran has managed to fire 2 missiles at the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean, one was shot down the other crashed on it's own, this is impressive as this is 5000 kms from Tehran a tiny island in the middle of the southern Ocean!!
