Most of the time I agree, you play to win.
But in this tourney, it seems like the accuracy rate in final is much lower. I haven't checked the stats though.
We've seen numerous examples though where the person leading into final doesn't win because they bet big and get it wrong, and the 2nd or 3rd place person bets small.

Yeah that was good betting in final. Obviously there is no perfect strategy but I feel like he maximized his odds of winning if he got it right or wrong. He blocked out the third place contestant with his bet completely.

Will some explain Final Jeopardy betting strategy today (Friday), or did the one contestant just make a mistake? Was bizarre, I thought.

Ha just came to post the same thing. Why on earth would you bet enough to come up 1 dollar short of the lead. Didn't cost her, but she must have done the math wrong.

The current champ is pretty incredible. Just an insane performance today
Imagine finally achieving your dream of getting on the show only to get bodied like that, I feel so bad for the other two contestants

I was really hoping he’d bet the max in final. I mean come on what do you have to lose? Why not try and hit $80k? He gets it wrong? Unlikely. Highly unlikely. Feels like he’s leaving money on the table.

Ridiculous
Not sure when/how he will be defeated.

Although O’Connell and Nareau had a few more correct responses in the rest of the round, they couldn’t quite catch up to Ding, who had $48,800 and 44 correct responses. His Coryat score is $42,400, according to J-Archive.
This beat Jennings’ highest single-game Coryat score of $39,200 and 25 correct responses, which took place on June 10, 2004, according to The Jeopardy Fan. According to Jennings on the March 17 episode, Ding’s score is a tie for the second-best game of Jeopardy!. The current record is held by Jennings with 45. Ding is tied with James Holzhauer.

Luke is a good candidate for 2nd chance tourney. Seemed like a really strong player who just ran into a wagon.

That was a fantastic game tonight with 3 great players.
What I don't understand is how with 3 great players, who were all quick, how they ran out of time in double? long clues?
