Interesting catch. I’m sure it’s nothing and someone else will get him if he goes but would be an interesting Conroy get for sure and would align with the age range we need

It would be nice if the Flames could use some of their draft capital to bring him in. I think that would be a pretty good risk for us.

If the Ducks are forced to trade McTavish, that would be a massive fail for them. Excellent pedigree and looked primed to break out into a top line power forward in 2023/24 and 2024/25. Really shocking to see him take such a massive step back.
With Gauthier and Sennecke both working out, the Ducks might have an embarrassment of riches or too many cooks in the kitchen?
You'd think they'd find a way to make McTavish work, especially going into the playoffs. Maybe they are just trying to light a fire under him before the playoffs? If he's on the move, the Flames should be in on that. Zary and Vegas' 1st?
That gives the Flames:
This year's pick, Reschny, Gridin, Coronato, and McTavish to build around as top 6 forwards. That's a fantastic start, especially if this year's pick is McKenna. It also makes a Verhoeff pickup at #3 look a lot more appealing.

Seems like me that certain NHL coaches are so much harder on younger players than vets with the scratches and line demotions. Maybe am biased and incorrect, but I see this with McTavish and I think of Zary this year and it feels like so many bad vets seem to get a pass.
Am sure Zary is not executing perfectly, but I watch a vet like Sharangovich floating around the ice doing nothing, with 4 points in his last 18 and minus a lot, and he's still somehow getting almost 20 minutes of ice against St. Louis? But I am all for the tank and that guy is a dream tank player I guess.

Not saying its right or wrong but with his salary and past history of being able to score goals (which is a major problem for this club) I understand Huska using him as much as he does.
I dont like the player a lot myself but also understand that Huska and crew see him in practice and off the ice which all plays in to decisions as well.
Though I will also say that Zary has been no better most of the year....and its a low bar to jump imo.

Doesn't hold though when you look at Anaheim. Young players are getting tons of opportunity on that team. It's not an old v. young thing. Some young players (Senneke, Carlsson, Guathier) have earned and are getting bigger opportunity. Others (Mactavish, Minty) aren't. I don't think it's an age thing.

Johnson or McTavish trade with some pieces and a second or two would not at all surprise me. Craig is targeting change of scenery pieces when he does add.

Would love Johnson or McTavish but both teams have other options if they need to dump salary. Johnson is cheap next season at a $1.8 million cap hit and Anaheim will move Alex Killorn who turns 37 before next season and his $6.25 million salary for one more year.

Interesting that the two parts of Flames scouting both have to be invested in.
Obviously amateur scouting is what everyone sees especially during drafts.
The ability to pickup distressed assets for relative pennies on the dollar and doing it well falls onto Flames pro scouting team.
I hope the Flames recognize that with both areas of scouting humming along, maximum value can be obtained whether we are drafting or trading players and picks.

Why in the hell would NJ trade him? Such a good player but NJ is starting to get the feel of a train wreck.
Also lol @ "insiderrrr"...just need a "p" on the end to really complete things.

New jersey going all in on the Hughes brothers, but it's Hirschier that makes that roster tick. A more offensively talented Backlund. If the Habs pull that off, it would be quite the coup.

Are they sitting him then for the rest of the season?

I would imagine Hirsh quietly asked for a trade, no reason to trade him otherwise.

Wouldn't surprise me. Jack Hughes a month ago was a refreshing voice for the NHL. Now he just comes across like an entitled child. Wouldn't surprise me if that team revolves around him and little bro. Not easy to be on a team with two brothers.

What if one of Sfalkovsky or Demidov was going the other way. That way NJD get a lot more team control of a top young player for 1 year of Hischer. Kind of similar to the Rantanen for Necas deal.
I think it could be a win-win.

I could probably say the same about NJD and Hischer, but I didn't see the Rantanen move coming either. You also kind of have to give to get, unless Hischer is similar to Marner and doesn't want to return or negotiate.

I wouldn't call Strome a star. He's good 65 point guy when he gets premium ice time.
