Quinnipiac eliminated from ECAC championship Clarkson takes the series 2-0 with a 4-3 win. Quinnipiac I believe will still be playing in the NCAA championship playoff though cause of their ranking

When the GMs Alma mater eliminates you from a tournament your team should have won...lol

That's disappointing and probably ensures he goes back for another year if there was even a small chance he wouldn't.
The loss dropped them down to 10th in the NPI ranking that determines who gets invited to the tournament. 10th place is good enough for an invite, but if they drop any more, they're going to be on the bubble.
I would not be surprised to see Wyttenbach turn pro no matter what happens Not saying he will but he's made it pretty clear what his priorities are.

My bet is that he plays next season in Quinnipiac and signs with the Flames and burns a year of the ELC. Kind of a perfect middle ground that grants him some more time to develop physically, another shot at a championship/Hobey Baker, WJC, and he gets a taste at the end of the season with as good a chance as possible to make the team for the new building
It's a safe bet, but I can wish for the above line anyway
If the flames did somehow get some luck in the draft lottery got to draft McKenna, I would be ok with him playing another year in college. It’s highly doubtful but it could be a smart move for a slighter player. If this ended up happening and by some awesome twist of fate Wyttenbach-Reschny-McKenna did end up on the same team, I would watch every game of that college hockey. Would be an absolutely dominant and entertaining line to watch.
Again… all of that would be incredibly unlikely but fun to imagine.

I know we are wanting him here sooner than later. I do. But theyneed to brew him and turn him into the right tea. Do something difference for once and have patience.

One of the biggest criticisms (rightfully so) of the organization has been too many older players blocking spots for young guys, forcing them to play in the AHL or other leagues longer than maybe they should have.
The Flames being impatient and forcing young guys into the lineup before they are ready is not something the organization does, pretty much the exact opposite.

Pretty sure McKenna will get an ELC after going 1st overall and turn pro.
I am actually curious. I would bet that too, especially with how well he has been producing this second half. However, a good analogy was that of Jack Hughes, and how perhaps he would have had a better start to his NHL career had he stayed in college for an extra year and developed a bit more physically. I can see the argument at least.
But yeah, I think McKenna probably graduates to the NHL next season as well.
I would push McKenna to take another year in college in order to beef up and address his deficiencies. It is hard to develop in the NHL if you still have major issues, which I assume he does after seeing him at the WJHC

That would be a terrible idea.
A: Unless he WANTS to do another year at school you're making him forgo millions of dollars, that won't sit well and won't establish a good relationship from the get go.
B: You're putting his health and development completely in the hands of an outside organization. Which is a risk you should take with lower value assets since the benefits outweigh it... but not higher value ones like McKenna.
