With such a large gap in production cycles and studios constantly bawking at costs, along with other genral f###ery, a person is better off just reading the books.
We've had to wait far too long for a second season.
This - the books are excellent.
The show was....OK at best. Too many changes to the story / storyline to make sense. Sometimes shows made for people with brains are just...better. Dummying stories down doesn't really work most of the time. Even worse when they fill the show with meaningless technobabble. It had "some" entertainment value, but nowhere near the reach of the books.
I finally got around to watching Adolescence. The first episode is shock and police procedure drama. The second is tragic like the 4th season of the Wire (if you know you know). The third episode is deeply disturbing. The 4th episode absolutely gutted me as a father.
Superb. There's no other word to describe it. Oh wait, there's one more: ####ing tragic. Not for the faint of heart, but if you're game, it's worth the watch.

Happy I watched it before reading any reference to The Wire.
Otherwise I would have never watched this fabulous series.
