That's just it. There was someone earlier talking about how they had saved all these receipts and were tracking this, but the return from all that is negligible. Then we have some public servants to go through these things, and some will be audited for verification, and to what end?

I feel the same about all the "boutique" tax credits like volunteer firefighters, teachers, etc. These things all make the tax code more complicated, make filing increasingly onerous, and provide nearly no benefit to citizens.

Well ya, that's what we are saying. Make it a flat refund and be done with it. The receipts and auditing are dumb. I guess getting rid of it gives me the same refund as I get now, which is zero. So sure, get rid of it I guess.

We should keep all the discounts the top 1% get though, those are essential to keeping them here creating trickle downs for the rest of us plebs.

Is there a special line to put this to? 33099 won't give me any actual refund. Google tells me that unless its over the lessor of 3% of net income or $2834 I am SOL.

I feel I wasted a lot of time highlighting receipts and tracking every purpose for no reason!

Just wanted to make sure there isn't a special spot to put this or something....
Waste of time. The Canadian Celiac Association is advocating for a blanket deduction/credit for people with Celiac disease. I believe it was introduced in the House of Commons recently, or will be soon.

Maybe it was just me, but I assumed Slava was also referring to the proliferation of credits for the 1%.

I agree with Slava, it's dumb how every election our political parties buy our votes with more niche tax credits. Remove the credits, simplify the tax system and lower the base rates for everyone instead.

Just because I think the tax code is dumb and a lot of it is a waste of time doesn't mean everyone is out to get you. Not everything is about some misguided class warfare that you seem to think it is. Sometimes, we just have dumb things that have arisen for political expediency.

If you're allergic to bread, literally the life sustenance of choice since time immemorial then you should be offered a Government supplied Cigarette and a blindfold and be asked to smoke up and stand by that suspiciously bullet-ridden wall over there...

Sorry but why should the tax payer be on the hook for the blindfolds?

Its a cost-savings in medical expenses if you think about it. Its the least we can do. Besides...you can re-use the blindfolds if the aim is decent...

As much as you like to think you have even a passing knowledge of the Canadian tax code, you do not.

And dude, you have your house paid off and you like to spend your money travelling. If you think that's normal, give your head a shake.

I also drive a $4600 truck I bought 14 years ago and live in a reasonably sized home that needed a lot of work I did myself. It's not because I'm loaded, it's because I chose where to sacrifice to do those things. It's sure as #### not from rolling in so much income I pay $150k in taxes.

Made a sandwich while reading this... Almost ate a Gluten Free Cheese Bagel then remembered it was $13 for the 6 pack and I didn't want to log it in my spreadsheet that the celiacs only ate 83% of the $13 ($10 incremental) Bagel and increase the risk of the government seeing I cheated on my taxes. /s

Also FYI for the non Celiacs, eating gluten doesn't make you poop. It's an autoimmune disease that tricks your body into attack its intestines. It will make holes in your intestines and can cause internal bleeding. There is no cure either.

But thanks to the CRA I can now claim it as a medical expense that won't even surpass the 3% threshold.

Maybe Ill apply to the CRA and make my way into the Gluten Free Claim approval channel and become the boss and make changes from the inside out....

Transfer it to an account in-kind and put it on the DRIP. Just leave it for years, and you don’t have to do anything.
