I don't think they put up much of a fight to keep you anymore. You have to leave first and then they try to win you back. I might be wrong, but I think the other telecom is also semi helpful in making the cancelation process less of a headache?

Telus potentially has a Black Friday 1 or 3 gigabit Fibre offering of $95 a month that can be locked in up to 5 years?

I'm tempted to ask if Telus offers fibre to my home, but I pay $90/mo for 750 and while not great value, performance is more than good enough. $132/mo for that is stupid sucky though.

My usage for last month with Enmax:
Oct 6 to Nov 4 - Easymax Fixed 3 Years @ 8.79
  • Energy Charge - 635.000kWh @$0.087900/kWh - $55.82*
  • Administration Charge - $9.86*
Delivery Charges - ENMAX Power
  • Distribution Charge - $32.73*
  • Transmission Charge - $25.13*
  • Balancing Pool Allocation - $0.85*
  • Rate Riders - $2.05* CR
  • Local access fee paid to CALGARY - $9.85
Total for Enmax - $132.19

With SpotPower's 3-year rate at 8.55 ¢/kWh and $8.85 admin charge - $129.65
With SpotPower's promo rate at 8.20 ¢/kWh and $8.85 admin charge - $127.43

I don't know that's as big of a change as I thought it'd be. I've been messing around with the Cost Comparison Tool (https://ucahelps.alberta.ca/cost-comparison-tool/), and SpotPower isn't anywhere close to the cheapest, though their internet rates are really good.

What can I expect if I'm switching companies? I've never been with anyone other than Enmax, does anything really change other than who you pay for your electricity bill?

Good question. I just recently switched to Atco, haven't gotten a bill yet.

I'm sick of shawgers renewal gas lighting me so I might consider a reseller to stop them dicking around.

Any tips?

Teksavvy advertising basically same plan as I have for $78 a month. Shawgers saying $90-105 but I have to immediately agree over the phone. Last person I spoke with said $95, then gaslit me when I said the previous caller offered $90. "Nope. I can see it here. They offered $100 per month."

Lol... Ok then. Get ####ed lady. I hope the screaming kid in the background knocks over your computer.

With light speed. They’re fine.

Ditto. No complaints. Bought a second hand cable modem and it has been pretty much smooth sailing.

Ditto. We're light users so have the 75mbps plan for $40. No complaints and no noticeable difference after leaving Shaw.

I used Can-Com (Shaw re-seller) and they were good to deal with. Looks like they have a 1Gbps plan for $79.00.

With Shaw you just need to play the "pretend to cancel and talk to retentions" game.

Either call or online chat and set a cancellation date for sometime in the future.
A day or 3 later the retention dept will call or send an email with a number to call.
Retentions will offer the best deals with very little to no haggling

~$50-$60 for 1Gbps is pretty common sometimes often credits thrown in. Has been the same process for years now - lots of discussion of RFD

That's what I was considering on doing, but I wanted a legitimate option that I'd legitimately consider to avoid them calling my bluff. Wife's ire is scarier.

A few of the option mentioned do seem enticing though and maybe in the future I'd consider them just to avoid the Shawgers sale people. If Shaw doesn't attempt to beat their offers, then I have no loyalty to them at all.

The $90 offer and then the gaslighting from the lady saying they had offered $100 so her $95 per month offer was really good really pissed me off though. She revealed they have notes on the account, knew they were badgering me and when they were calling me, but still tried to lie to my face about what they were offering.

On calling your bluff, when you first speak to the regular CS people just tell them you got a better deal elsewhere and want to cancel. They'll offer you something crappy and just say no thanks and you want the cancel date to be 2 months or so in the future. That way if it all goes wrong you can just phone back and cancel the cancel.

I've done it I think 3 times now (all 2 year deals) and the retention dept has always gotten in touch with way better offers.

I agree on the loyalty thing and get annoyed about the games, but end of the day will just take the best offer I can get, which has always been the Shaw retentions.

Man, I was basically ready to walk from Shawgers and not really expecting anything crazy for a retention offer. But they really pulled out the big guns with retentions and blew me away with an offer I couldn't refuse.

I wasn't expecting much. I would have been happy with an offer essentially matching the resellers in the $80 with no credit for a 1GB plan. $70 per month and I'd be dancing and the $50-60 with credits was more like dreaming of hitting the lotto. I wasn't expecting that.

I got a ridiculous 2 year retention offer of $60/mo for the 2GB plan and credits thrown in. I had to ask to have the offer repeated before I accepted because I was in disbelief.
