Throwing a 8 year deal to Fredric who hasn’t ever scored more than 40 points (6 points in 60 games so far in his first year with the oilers at the ripe age of 28) is awesome though!

It is tough to have a deep roster when you pay $46 million to four players. You can't afford to make mistakes and you better be getting some great value out of young players on rookie contracts. Oilers blew it both ways.

Anaheim is the only team in the Pacific with a record over .500 in their last 10. Edmonton is on pace to get 91 points. 91 points wouldn't have made the playoffs in the last 10 seasons and is now enough to potentially get a home divisional playoff series.
Edmonton is no good and is only in playoff contention because the Pacific is even more no good.

Last time I was at my parents' house I liberated a few books, including a biography of legendary local muckraker Bob Edwards. I was having a look at it this morning and found out that even back in turn of the century Alberta, ol' Bob knew the facts about Edmonton:
