Awesome video. I got chills when the F-18 went to after burner.

Strange, when you visit the Swiss airforce site, they don't show Mirage III's as part of thier national inventory.

F-5's keep showing up, which is funny considering that the airframe is probably about 30 years old, and the Canadian forces used them as thier primary interceptor until the CF-18's came along.

Great cheap little aircraft with a limited ordinance load.

Nope, the Eurofighter is a twin engined delta wing canard.

the one in the video was a single engine.

I thought it was the Rafale, but the intakes are definately for the Mirage III

Can't go wrong with a video of the JSF F35 which is the possible replacement for the CF-18
http://youtube.com/watch?v=4tsH-Q8jZ...elated&search=
Of course, Canada's version won't be the VTOL version.

Ah,i briefly saw the front deflector elevators and thought of the euro.

I saw a cool show on the eurofighter the other night on DC...the thing is a beauty and cost a 3rd of what the f-22 will cost...not that the US will sell them any time soon.

That's a pretty sweet video. Too bad it was ruined by that awful song. Don't they know you're supposed to play "Rock You Like A Hurricane" or "Danger Zone" when there are kick-ass jets putting on a show?

Canada dosen't really have the need for VTOL capability, its only really needed for short carrier operations, or unsuitable runways. In Canada they're based out of set bases, usually UN missions have air force bases.

Then IMO why bother with the F35 at all? Canada should just upgrade to the super-hornet as it blows away the F35 in overall performance, especially without VTOL.

Can you find a link to a F35 without VTOL? i searched and couldn't find a thing.

I'd give my left nut to ride in an F18... drooooool.

As for the J35 VTOL... as far as i know, there is no non-VTOL varient. At least I've never heard of one.

Actually there's no VTOL variant of the production fighters, at least not yet.

The F-35A is a conventional take off and landing fighter, intended to replace the F-16 and the A-10.

The F-35B is a STOVL variant, short take off and vertical landing. It's intended to replace the current Harriers and F/A-18's for the RAF, Royal Navy, and Marines.

The F-35C is bigger with foldable wings and better landing gear for carrier work.

Yeah the F-35 will be much the same as the Super Hornet, though much stealthier.

The Canadian Airfoce is banking on the 35a production model as its replacement for the F-18, at the moment they'll continue to use the CF-18. I'd personally rather have the stealthy F35 then the Superhornet, which is a very good fighter, but its based on a 20 year old airframe that won't be as effective against the newer generation fighters.
