I don’t know much in this world. But I know that one day Jack Michaels is gonna have a brain aneurysm live on air. The man is unhinged.

But the filth needed everything to go their way tonight, and it did. Won't be like that in a 7 game series vs Avs.

.... hopefully.
Well I don't think they could rely on MacKinnon being ejected every night to give them the handicap they'd need.

I wouldn't call Blackwood as their backup. He's projected to be their starter in game one of the playoffs. Wedgewood has been the better goalie this season, but he's always been a veteran backup 1B.

I think the only way to salvage this season is to put money on the Oilers to make it to the third round, the Finals, and sadly maybe even win it all. The Pacific is a joke, we all can agree on that. The Oilers own Dallas in the playoffs and the Avs have choked for years (and yes their goalies are a liability).

I actually think Minnesota would be the Oilers toughest test. The Oilers have never matched up well against Minny. Yet the Wild still need to get past Colorado and Dallas, while the Oilers will coast against the dregs in their division. The Pacific was bad last year, but in 2026 it's even worse.

Then out East the competition is less even less imposing. Who knows what to make of Buffalo, they're on a hot streak, but how long will that last? The Hurricanes are Dallas East and will likely get dumped in the third round. I like Tampa, but they haven't fared well in the playoffs recently and their backend seems suspect. There is no Florida Panthers team to save us this year.

Plus let's face it the NHL wants their darlings to win the Cup. The league wants McDavid to finish the story and win before he rides off into the sunset. There's only three opportunities remaining, and they can't go on deep runs into the playoffs every year. Other teams like the Ducks and Sharks are catching up, so this might be Edmonton's only chance.

I'm certain we will see even more calls go the Oilers way in the Spring. The only way I can salvage it will be putting money on them, and turning off the television. Hope for the best, expect the worst. The playoffs have been tough to swallow the past couple years, may as prepare for the worst case scenario now.

I believe Blackwood is the starter, although they split time a lot.

Another year of sweating an Oilers playoff run. Ughhh, I hate this.

It's not happening, neither of them is missing. Even if Kraken push one of those two into a wild card spot, the teams below them just suck way too much, and the point gap is up to around 6 points already.

Jets are a team I think could catch fire, but they're too far back already.

Wedgewood is their starter. He has way more minutes played (2000 to 1500) and the only reason it's somewhat close is because Wedgewood missed some time with an injury. And he has better numbers despite the heavier workload. He's their starter, no question about it really.

The one thing that worries me though is that they held on to Burns too long and he seems to be aging out before our eyes. He was bad tonight. The Avs could be really vulnerable in the playoffs if they only have 2 D pairs they can rely upon.

I think you are mixing it around. Blackwood was hurt the first quarter of the season and missed a bunch of games.

Blackwood is definitely their starter if the playoffs started tomorrow.

Not to mention their season has been propped up by lots of OT/skills comp points. There's no 3 on 3 in the playoffs, and their D and goaltending are even worse this year, so I don't see them getting anywhere near the Cup. That being said, it definitely looks like they're gonna have an easier path than any other team for the 3rd straight year, which is infuriating. Once again, it'll likely be up to Dallas/Minny/Colorado to knock them out.

That 5 minute major against MacKinnon was an absolute joke. The leagues little darling just keep benefitting from bizarre calls from league refs. How many games this year have the Greasepigs won after getting gifted calls? It just boggles the mind that no one calls the league out on this.

Yeah it was Blackwood that missed the opening months of the season. That said I'm not 100% sure Blackwood starts game one of the playoffs. Wedgewood has better stats and is signed to one more season so I would expect both goaltenders would see time if they go deep into the playoffs. If they don't go deep I think it's probably time to consider a coaching change as they haven't been good in the playoffs since winning the cup and could probably bring in a guy like DeBoer who will give them an immediate bump for a season or two.

I am trying to recall the last time a player was so obviously pushed into a goalie and there was a game misconduct. Not even in international hockey. Which begs the question - who were the refs last night?
