Kind of funny that in a thread about misinformation there are several people just outright making things up or presenting conclusions with legitimately terrible amateur research methods.

It’s basically like watching people talk about the effectiveness of the COVID vaccine based on whether they personally got COVID or not.

We’ve learned a lot as a society. Glad so few here bothered to put literally any meaningful effort into forming their opinions on this.

Fuzz did post misinformation that people should be educated and use Bluesky to avoid misinformation, so I guess that’s another from today !

You are confused, because you don’t seem to understand shat misinformation is. Looks like you aren’t alone with a few others, though, so don’t be hard on yourself.

Here’s the definition:

What actually happened with CNN (as reported in the article and elsewhere) is not misinformation because the facts of the story were correct (you could verify this if you read it), but were framed in a softer/lighter/more “whimsical” tone. That’s also what people took issue with (rightfully so, as it’s a legitimate editorial issue and frankly just a terribly stupid way to frame that event). You’ll notice nowhere in the article does it mention misinformation, nor have I seen anyone reputable label it that on social media, because it would indicate the person doesn’t actually know what misinformation is.

Whereas you:
- claimed CNN posted misinformation (false)
- claimed CNN posted an apology about posting misinformation (false)

Unlike CNN, you actually got the facts wrong, which ironically means you were the one posting misinformation in this case.

Hope that clears it up. I think some more learning is in order before you dive any deeper into the conversation.

Which goes back to why observing the back and forth in this thread feels like it is making people overwhelmingly dumber.

If we use the commonly accepted definition of misinformation, and agree that ways to combat that are to seek out verifiable information trustworthy sources from trustworthy sources, then watching a bunch of people who have been guilty of being terrible sources spread unverifiable information and observable misinformation while they clumsily attempt to call out misinformation in a thread about misinformation becomes hilarious.

Nobody here is defending X or Musk's politics. You were called out for the misinformation you pulled from Bluesky, and now you've gone full tilt.

Bluesky is a highly partisan, short-form social media platform. Its users are looking for validation for what they already believe, not nuance or pushback.

If you're mainly interested in knowing what's happening in the world, and you want it sourced from a left or liberal POV, you can get that from the CBC, Guardian, or NPR. What platforms like Bluesky offer that the MSM doesn't is the barbed, snarky, hyper-partisan engagement that users cultivated on Twitter and took with them when they became refugees on Bluesky.

And if that's what floats your boat, then cool. But the platform is going to present content that crosses the line from highly biased to outright misinformation because the people peddling misinformation don't get pushback from followers and 'allies' if it targets groups and people they all hate. That's just the nature of the platform and the community.

BlueSky isn't used for stuff like baseball, tech news, hockey? Actual...reasons why you would use an event based social media platform like X or BlueSky?

I legitimately went in to see what it would look like for my everyday use of social media with an open mind. It failed miserably. Unless you solely use it to follow accounts you follow. I see some niche uses, but they are extremely limited.

I'm all ears on what you use it for. Legitimate non-political ones. More attempts today, again legitimate attempts.

I search "AI Art", and get everything but AI art.

Why don't we just try "Art"? I get a Trump / Epstein drawing first post...

I've followed several non-political accounts and interests (yes including baseball). And yet the first thing I get right in my main discover this morning is @stonerphillyfan.bsky.sc

I get shown a random baseball fan's (were 100% of his posts are political) opinion on the war of Iran? And fed the same exact accounts as yesterday (Aaron Rupar, Christopher Webb) along with a sprinkle of cat photos.

Surely there is more to BlueSky than political rage filled folks, right?

Also...I find your insulting of someone looking for sports in a normal matter quite odd, considering this is a hockey forum and primarily the reason most of us frequent this board (I would hope).
