Eh it's been mostly fine. The liquid glass is stupid but they're running out of ideas because they need some new people at the helm.
But the phone app is much improved and other apps have been improved.

Soooooo one thing I didn't think about when I got my battery replaced by the Apple Store was the element of water resistance being compromised. The phone got bumped and slid into the sink today while the water was running. Normally this wouldn't be a problem whatsoever... well, an hour or so later I noticed I had no cellular service (phone said "No SIM" -- I only use an eSIM) and there was a fogging beneath my front-facing camera. FFFFFFFFFUUUUUU....
So it's shut off and in a Ziploc filled with silicia gel desiccant for the next day or two. Feck, spent the money on the new battery to avoid having to buy a new phone, only to very possibly need a new fecking phone if this doesn't work.
EDIT: Condensation is gone from the front camera, rear camera fogging is reducing considerably, and I can turn the device on and see my cellular service works again, so it seems to have recovered thankfully. It's still living in a bag of silica gel packets a while longer, though.

They're supposed to put on a new waterproof seal and then put the phone into what is basically a vise and squish it for a few minutes to get the seal activated.

Well TD, I'll be needing to do similar soon, and again will build on your experience/wisdom to ensure they properly waterproof it.
Thanks for being the guinea pig, hope it gets sorted.

Fogging is 100% gone, no issues with the cameras, e-SIM, etc.
So yeah, just make sure they install the new waterproof seal properly, and even then, keep the thing away from water. Your days of "Oooh my phone can go underwater" should be considered OVER. Hell, consider it less splashproof than a vintage dress watch.

And why has it made my phone laggy as crap. Flipping open apps and screen there is a noticeable delay

I continue to get little confirmations that my choice not to upgrade is a wise one. I suppose I’ll have to at some point, but holding out as long as possible.

The keyboard doesn't always launch at the right times too and when paired with the screen always on function, can also create some strange scenarios.

Eh, it's totally fine. I don't even notice it anymore and save for a buggy initial launch period it's been pretty solid.

I just upgraded to iOS 26.2 and in the settings under Automatic Updates there's a few things I didn't see before.
You can toggle off both "Automatically download" and then under System Files you can turn off "Automatically install."
Doing that just freed up about 12 GB of space for me.

Eh, my wife upgraded and not a big fan of some of the changes. She isn't either. Think I'll continue to hold out. Which is odd, as I usually update right away.

When you first install 26 it'll reindex all your media and text. And it can take quite a bit of time.

Yeah, once that's done, it's quite speedy. Been using it on my 15 Pro for quite a while now.

I updated early and got used to it. I’d even say that I like it.
My wife got automatically updated more recently. She had a minor complaint about it but I haven’t heard anything since, so it can’t be too bad!

Yeah, both my girlfriend and I run it, and it has been pretty well received by her too.

Long article on the dogs breakfast that is the Apple keyboard. I don't use them much, so hadn't realized just how bad they have been at this. Not that MS has been great, but this is..
Quote:
But Apple kept their new /Fn key close to their chest – only Apple keyboards and selected partners were allowed to generate the right code. This resulted in a complex scenario where Logitech keyboards for the iPad had a functioning key, but other Logitech keyboards came with this warning: The Fn key on Logitech keyboards, when connected to macOS or iOS, functions differently from the Fn/Globe key on Apple. […] Logitech keyboards do not send the Fn/Globe key keycode in a manner that is compatible with Apple's specific shortcuts. As a result, certain Apple functions, such as window tiling and other shortcuts reliant on the Fn/Globe key, are not supported by our keyboards.
|
Stuff like this is why I think there should be international regulations preventing Apple from setting industry standards.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the problem, this is where you 1. reverse engineer to generate the right key-press code, 2. add a physical switch to the keyboard to allow switching the Fn key between Mac and Windows functionality, and 3. counter-sue for anti-competitive practices when they come after you for the reverse-engineering work needed to make a basic, functional keyboard.

I suspect this is one of paying a licensing fee to Apple, so they could get get a cut of every keyboard sold. Typically how they do these things.
Perhaps Logitec felt the fee was unwise to pay, and went this way, or perhaps Apple felt Logitec had wronged them in the past, and wouldn't license them due to a previous breach of contract.
I suspect Apple knows how to legally handle these things, as they've been doing it for so long. It's basically free money taken from consumers, and one of the reasons I will not support the company. Anyway, that wasn't really the point of the article, but another reason why Apple should never have a say in standards. I don't trust them not to charge money just because they can.
