Yup, Twins can be alien like weird anyway, they have been line mates since they were 12, and probably before that. Growing up they idolized the Sedins.

They belong together and GM's will be leery drafting one.

Yeah, there seems to be some built in chemistry there. Individually, I often see Liam Ruck ranked anywhere from mid-1st round to early 2nd round and Markus ranked mid-2nd to late 2nd round. But there is probably a case to be made that if you can get both, you can justify drafting them higher to capitalize on the synergy that they bring as a tandem.

Yeah if the scouts like them enough Conny has lots of ammo to get both, if we're picking say #22 use two 2nds to get the other, I wouldn't screw around waiting to long because you know some rival GM won't want them together.

Here’s what I think happens with the Rucks comes draft day:

I would say it’s probably a less than 5% chance they get drafted by different teams and whoever drafts Liam first will walk away with both of them. I doubt that another team drafts Markus and is willing to separate the twins after Liam goes.

What I think will likely happen, though, is other GMs are probably going to try and extort the GM who does draft Liam, to some degree by bluffing that they’re going to draft Markus and using that to try and force a trade and get extra assets from that team.

Do you think a GM will use a pick to take a player way higher than he’s ranked just to prevent another team from getting both of them? Just to do a favour for the rest of the league? Especially if there are questions about how good the player they’re taking is without his brother? With a late 1st or early 2nd pick? I’m not sure any GM is going to potentially throw away an important pick on what could be a lesser asset if he’s not playing with his brother.

I know there’s some risk in waiting, but most GMs are interested in protecting their own assets rather than worrying about what someone else is doing.

I can absolutely see this happening. Hopefully if the Flames are interested, the Vegas pick is early enough to get Liam and their own 2nd is close enough that they’re not too worried about losing out on Markus.

Come to think of it, it would be a decent consolation if Vegas won the Cup and the Flames ended up with the 31st and 33rd overall picks and Liam fell to 31st because nobody else wanted to pick him without having the pick to get Markus as well. And as an added bonus, the Flames would get another 1st from Vegas.

The door will be closed by the 31st pick, I suspect.

Vancouver owns Minny's pick and I think it is likely that they jump on Liam if he is there. The team that gets the first one has a good chance of getting both. And the two teams that are likely most interested are the two teams that happen to be in the best position to get them (VAN and CGY).

The other team to be concerned about is STL because they own the DET (24) and COL (32) picks.

I think that if you sit and hope they fall to you, you'll miss out.

If the Flames want them, they will have to trade up. Hopefully Vegas' pick is high enough, and trading two 2nds (of which the Flames have some high ones) could see them grab a pick that is close enough. Hopefully it won't take 3 seconds - that's a lot of capital, and maybe it would simply be better to add one second to the Vegas pick and move up instead, and move into a potentially a higher tier.


It is nice having a lot of options for this upcoming draft. Makes this upcoming draft the most exciting draft for the Flames of all time, I would say. So many options, and a top tier pick.

Question is what is the price the Canucks have to pay to get them?

Do the Flames do 19th for 33rd and 43rd?

Or if the Canucks realistically think they can get Markus with a 33rd or 43rd pick do the Flames trade down from 19th to 27th?

Not sure I see Conroy being generous to the Canucks here, especially considering the Flames are in a better draft position to get the twins.
