I was really big on Battaglia, and was looking forward to see him next season and see if he was going to rebound. There is a lot to like about Battaglia as he has a nice overall package of size and skill.

However, Othman was clearly the better prospect when comparing the same ages, but simply hasn't been able to get going in the NHL. I think that the Rangers suck at developing players and putting them in positions to succeed, so let's hope this is the case.

Also, I guess Battaglia saw this coming a mile away, which explains his poor season. His psychic probably told him this was going to happen this season, and he has just been sulking about it all season long.

The Flames have a lot of prospects in that 18-20 year old range and are about to add another big crop. Eventually they are all going to need a place to play when they go pro. It doesn't hurt to flip one out now for a slightly older one if they think the potential upside is the same. Max Curran also probably replaces Battaglia in our system.

He took a massive step back this year, too. Like, bigger than the one Battaglia took.

Max Curran needs to be signed by June 1, 2026 or he re-enters the draft (as well as Hunter Liang).

I am sure it won't be an issue, but we can probably look forward to him signing the ink soon.

Ooops, wrong thread, but I’ll leave it.

I don’t know

He couldn’t step up to the next league. That’s normal

Battaglia stepped down on the same league in his D+2 season. That’s not normal

Am I happy or mad about this? I liked Battaglia but regression is usually a bad sign with a prospect

Boy oh boy did the stock drop on Battaglia.

Had to be off ice issues to see him just completely come apart this year. Best of luck in new york

I do get it from the Rangers. Time was running out for Othmann there, so they restart the clock with a younger prospect. Othmann probably needs a change of scenery and I wouldn't be shocked if he became a NHL regular with the Flames soon. Ceiling is probably limited, but he plays hard and could be a solid 3rd liner in the NHL.

This is what Wheeler wrote on him last year:

Quote:
2. Brennan Othmann, LW, 22 (Hartford Wolf Pack)

After posting 59 goals and 121 points in 85 combined regular-season and playoff games in his post-draft season, Othmann’s production dipped in his final junior season (39 goals and 97 points in 84 games), in particular after a move from his Firebirds to the contending Petes (though he did still lead them in playoff and Memorial Cup scoring in the end). In between, he also looked the part of a top prospect at the World Juniors in both Edmonton and Halifax, especially in the games that mattered (he’s a gamer). Last season, as a rookie at the pro level, he made his NHL debut and finished second on the Wolf Pack in goals (22) and tied for first in points (54) in 77 combined regular-season and playoff games at the AHL level. He was also a consistent shot-generator and offensive contributor while continuing to play his thorny, pest style against men. This season, after getting off to a strong start in his second year of pro, Othmann suffered an upper-body injury that kept him out for a couple of months and his production has been a little slower since his return.

Othmann’s got a dangerous, masked release that he can get off his blade at multiple points while still maintaining pinpoint accuracy. He’s got a good first touch into quick hands. He’s got that sixth sense as a scorer to find holes in coverage and in goalies to finish plays at a higher rate than most. He’s got a heady spatial awareness inside the offensive zone and a good feel for where his teammates are on the ice, regularly executing blind and clever passes. He plays a determined off-puck game that engages in battles.

He’s a physical presence when he’s on the ice, a constant threat to lay a big hit. He’s scrappy and mouthy between whistles (there’s a bit of a chip on his shoulder on and off the ice). He’s got great hands around the net and on tips. He plays a direct, attacking game with the puck and he has worked hard to get stronger and a step quicker so that he can make the most out of his natural gifts on the ice. He has gotten better and better at reading the play and breaking up passes defensively, and at moving his feet off the puck not just to chase hits but to get up and under sticks and stay on pucks. His pace has been a bit of a question over the years but when he plays with enough tempo his game has an identity. I still think he’s got the ability to become a middle-six, PP2, secondary-scoring winger with some snarl.
I'm excited to see what he can do with with the Wranglers and Flames.

He also needs to clear waivers next season, so it was a bit of risk management from that aspect.

The Flames are loading up on so many prospects that at some point they will struggle to find them proper ice time and development time once they turn pro. It's going to be a log jam.

Something clearly off with Battaglia, doesn't seem like a guy at this point who is going to force his way onto the upper half of the Wranglers roster over the next couple of seasons. Might have jumped the gun a little signing him as quickly as they did.

Smart move to trade him for an older prospect who needs a change of scenery and they can find out if he has anything to contribute now, before the log jam starts.

Probably already posted but Conroy said Othmann will start on the farm but likely be called up.

Is there still the 3 call up rule or did that go away? I can't remember.
