Plus if Makar is gone, the Avs might not be elite in 2028. Almost better to kick tires three years down the road.

Who knows where Colorado is in 2028 as they put all their eggs into this basket and are only getting older.
Imagine having Makar and their 1st. One can dream.

Makar gone or not… the chances of the Avs being “bad” in 2028 is higher than it is now or in 2027. Love that they got a 2028 1st.

hopefully the BS about the Flames ownership willingness to retain will end; Should have ended after repeated salary retentions, but people ignore facts for their narrative

All I can get

Maybe Montreal wanted too much retention, which killed the deal. Then Conroy pivoted to an agreed-to deal with Colorado.

No you weren't. You were told it was a reason a trade is difficult. Not that it couldn't happen.

Big change for this franchise. The biggest problem over the last 3 decades has been they have been asset poor. So they were constantly stealing from Peter to pay Paul.
They have to re-build a good team at the NHL level, but this team has more future assets now then it has EVER.
If that doesn't tell you there has been a change in approach, I don't know what to tell you .
