Why are we so sure they're lying? Would this really be a shock? Sure they have retained in the past but it's also pretty safe to assume there's some heartburn for ownership to do so.

I don't get Montreal pushing for retention, especially if Flames are taking on Laine. They've got a ton of cap coming off the books in the next two years. They can fit Kadri in no problem.

Its all BS, Flames will retain but not for free. They aren't going to retain and then also give a bargain price.

nor should they

for

Kadri and Pachal or Hanley

That is HORRIBLE value.

Can't they just send Anderson back to balance the books and pony up on futures?

Bonus is people would only have to delete one S from their jerseys!

It doesn't make any sense that the gms would even be talking this late in the day if they don't have a common understanding on retention of bad salary being the basis of the deal

Habs have the summer to figure out their cap next year. Not our problem.

It is a problem they may not want to take on

The longer this takes... the more difficult it will be to move Coleman as well given uncertainty around retention.

My gut is those Habs beat reporters are going on old information.

If Flames and Habs reengaged here it's because something changed on either the retention or return front.

With the lack of smoke I am guessing Coleman is staying

Most of these "bad contracts" coming back don't have 3 years left

I think this is a game of chicken, times winding down and we are gonna see who blinks first, will the Flames capitulate and retain without value coming back or will the Habs up their offer...

37 minutes to go.

Might just be a game of chicken. Agreement in principle is probably there contingent on the Flames ownership retaining.

Habs might have reengaged to say "lol 40 mins left, you gonna fold and take some money back?"
