Outside of the Hage's and Reinbachers and Zharovskys, my hot take is they end up with Aatos Koivu.

Good to see we’ve learned from the past not to expect a teams top prospect in a trade and end up disappointed when we get a 20 year college prospect.

After watching him here in Finland this season, I think he's never getting to the NHL.

An HFboards user mentioned that Renaud Lavoie is saying not to expect Kadri to MTL...

It seems the Flames are still refusing to withhold any salary in the Nazem Kadri trade ( @RLavoieTVA ). It's difficult to finalize a deal if the owners don't change their stance.

This is the same reason any Canadiens interest in Nazem Kadri may not translate into a trade.

Canadiens do not have an appetite for the full $7M AAV for the next three years.

Calgary ownership does not want to retain on Kadri.

We'll see if anything changes

Which would also mean teams don't want to pay the price for the retention. Two way street.

Montreal-based reporters insist the Flames/Flames ownership need to do more to retain. Very authentic and transparent.

Kadri wouldn't veto a trade to Montreal. If it fell apart it's because of retention, again.

I don't get how Kadri @ 7mil is bad....

Just take bad money back on a smaller contract... no need to retain. I'm also a bit confused as to why ownership is against retention... we aren't near the cap, they've routinely spent to the cap so not sure why the wallet is so tight right now... and we're unlikely to need to retention slots moving forward if Kadri is traded, because we've essentially cleared out any players that would need it, except maybe Coleman, but his cap hit shouldn't be prohibitive to other teams.

I expect with no RS the returns will not be great, and we will be taking back players that are not exciting.

Laine, Dach, Xhekaj 2nd Mtl 2026 and 3rd Mtl 2027

for

Kadri and Pachal or Hanley

Late to this thread and only got through 1st 60 or so posts, but out of the box thinking to make salary work. What if Habs dump Danault's salary as part of Kadri trade?

It depends on that that retention is. If it is 50% and a mediocre return than I can understand it. Teams might not want to subtract from their rosters as well on the bad contracts.
