Maybe he's injured for the rest of the season anyway, and then UFA.
Could be a Flame officially for cap purposes but never play.

I said it in the Weegar thread, I think some of the proposals here are.....a bit wildly off the board. Kadri is great and all but at his age and at that contract...you need to tone down expectations a bit as to a return. Just my two cents anyway.

He could waive and just stay home and never set foot in Calgary, no one would care. There's like 20-ish games left? Just let him rehab where ever he wants.

I wonder if Zach Bolduc could be someone coming back. He looked promising with St. Louis. Could be a good goalscorer.

As I posted in the other thread, Josh Anderson and his $5.5 million salary would better balance Kadri's money. I imagine Montreal would love to get rid of him.
Moving Laine doesn't help a ton as most of his money has already been paid and his contract is expiring this year.

Kadri + Whitecloud would require some meaningful pieces in return.

I've been missing having a Finn with a giant head on the team. Got really accustomed to it with Nieminem and Jokinen. Valimaki and Maata are Finnish, but they do not have giant heads.

If we dealt kadri for a b prospect straight across i would be happy with it. Just recover the first we spent to get him. Anything else is just gravy.

If it maximizes the return take them both. It isn't a ton of real dollars for Laine for the rest of the year

I'd rather the value be out into a prospect in return than more picks at this point.

If Pachal is part of the inclusion instead of Whitecloud, feels like it's acquisition cost that would be the hold up.
If Whitecloud is the equivalent of a 1st, and Kadri is MAYBE a 1st if no retention, then sub in Pachal instead and you're looking at equivalent of a 1st + ~3rd? Maybe a bit less if Xhekaj is included.
Xhekaj > Pachal
Kadri >> Laine
Extended term of Kadri should penalize the Flames.
If those are the components, I'd think about an extra 1st is coming to the Flames in this exchange and I'd be happy.

Plus, CP will need a new whipping boy with Huberdeau hurt, Weegar and Rasmus gone.

He does, but I can't see it being a problem. Either he shuts it down for the rest of the season and never even comes to Calgary, or he wants to prove himself to get another contract and he likely won't get a better chance to do that than he would with the Flames.

I would be absolutely shocked if Zharovsky was part of any deal around any Flames targets. Were the rumors not that he was being held out of a Thomas deal and that's what broke that down? I think they love him and for good reason. Would LOVE to be wrong though.
I imagine any futures from the Habs starts with Hage and Zharovsky off the table. Picks are probably the main currency here but if they're after prospects think Pickford (Alberta kid, RD, another Tiger for the collection), Engstrom (LD, 22, looks good in the AHL), maybe Mooney (tiny high skill NCAA american forward) but I'd be meh on that. Given the Flames M/O on prospects though it'll be some guy we've never hear of who turns out a lot more promising than anticipated.
