I like that spot for him. His dad will be happy and Leafs fans will hate it.

So I was looking at the Habs roster and lets say retention is an issue...I wonder about Jake Evans as a piece back to the Flames.
If they move for Kadri they'd have.
Suzuki - Kadri - Kapanen - Danault at center with Hage coming.
Evans has the same term as Kadri left and $2.85M. A placeholder RH shot center. Only has 16 points in 46 games this year and has been replaced by Kapanen, Kadri, and Danault.
Evans, Laine, 1st, ???
For Kadri
Could actually work.

Laine's definitely one of the bad contract back workarounds vs. retention.
Works for me.... as long as it's not Monahan trade 2.0 and we're including a 1st... nervous laughter

I believe Laine is injured at the moment. Not sure when he'll be back.

I have heard that two other players possibly being discussed in this as well is Pachal and Xhekaj.

Why is retention an issue? Don't the Flames have one slot left?

Laine is a UFA at the end of this year, so not sure how that helps Montreal with the salary for the final few years.

Laine means no retention on Kadri, which was one of the goals. He's also a UFA that wasn't going to be re-signed by Montreal, so his inclusion shouldn't alter the return much at all.
This kind of feels like Zharovsky and the Xhekaj brothers.

I saw someone mention that it would be better to keep it for taking on a couple bad contracts in trades.
