The value of a 1st+ for Kadri for a three-year retention slot is justified, IMO. And more than what you're likely to get for the remaining assets to purge on this roster over the next couple years.
At ~5 years though when factoring in a buyout it's a different story altogether, and I do not fault them for holding the line.

Kinda feels like the lack of double retention will really effect the amount of trades this year

I personally want to see Coleman traded today with retention
Kadri can wait till next year when we have two retention spots open and it's less of a burden on the squirting team money wise plus with the cap going up big time next season it makes it easier to store him
Sometime in the best future Huberdeau sees the writing on the wall and asks for contact termination so he can goto Montreal

Had any team ever hit the 3 retention slot limit ? I think Calgary would be the first to do it (Rangers could depending what they do as well I believe )
I’m not worried at all if we only have 2 moving forward . The odds of as needing another 3 during a single season and it blocking us is very low .
The risk of getting stuck with Kadri long term is much more risky IMO
I would prioritize moving Kadri over Coleman if both require a slot

But we have 2 other retention slots open next year as well . You can do both

Francis saying heavy lifting in the summer... talking about "tremendous leaders in the organization."
A pouting, half-assed Kadri isn't going to provide much leadership.

Kadri isnt going to keep this team from “bottoming out”. Flames are in ####ing 31st.
If Kadri REALLY wants to move he needs to expand his list, end of story.
Otherwise show up to work, be a professional and we’ll continue work to find a solution.
As much as the Flames signed the contract so did he.

So where were you when the Weegar trade broke? Royle was all over it, and you were nowhere to be found after weeks of gifs.

I can understand not moving both Kadri and Coleman today, but not moving one of them would be a big miss.

Bieksa is spot on here, Kadri has a very nice contract and you need a big price to get him. His analysis is usually dead spot on.

It's going to end up being Kadri for a decent return (1st, b level asset, contract) with 1 mil or less retention to make the deal happen.

Crazy world we live in where two years ago fans were 100% convinced the Flames would never retain to never retain on multi years, to now thinking they don't need all those retentions slots despite the team about to be without any until July 1st.

Yep, it makes me happy to see someone like him who has played against him understand the value Kadri brings. Leader, playoff performer, center, reasonable cap hit. The only thing not on Kadri's side is his age.

So you don't want him to hint something is going on in case it doesn't happen?
Honestly is that your aim here?
