Firefly
Lots of rumours floating around online based on hints from Nathan Fillion and most of the cast, is getting peoples hopes up for a sequel tv show or project.
Of course, Ron Glass (Book) passed away, Wash died in Serenity (still one of my favourite movies), Adam Baldwin (Jayne) is MAGA and actually is credited for coming up with the hashtag gamergate, and Summer Glau (River) has mostly retired at least temporarily to raise her family.
I loved Firefly from the start, although of course Whedon is looked at with a different lens now.
Of course Nathan Fillion has a full time show with the Rookie and Morena Baccarin (Inara) also has her own show although I'm not sure if it was renewed or will be, of course.
Still, I think any sort of project would be exciting. A lot of people are suggesting cartoon, since the cast is so much older, and it could let you use Alan Tudyk and do stories between the pilot and Serenity (the Movie).
Or it could all be a tease because most of them are appearing at a con?

I'm here for it.
Browncoats Unite!
But I warn you, I will be immensely hurt if this winds up being sudden but inevitable betrayal....
If any of you have been to my office you will have seen all of my Firefly swag so I am all in for more of this!

I'm hoping that this isn't going to be like some remastering thing, or a podcast thing.
I just rewatched FireFly and Serenity not that long ago, and I do think its time.

I just don't know what it could realistically be, given where the cast is.
You could do a whole new show set in the same universe, not centered around Serenity or the original characters but having them be in it as recurring guest characters. That could be fun.
Or it could be Mal and Zoe still together years later with a new ship and crew, or even just off on their own in a smaller operation, having fallen on hard times. But I think the first option would be better.

I've heard a prequel suggested, so perhaps they have Kurtzman on call and go with Firefly Academy.

A prequel wouldn't work with the prior cast though. They're, well, 25 years older now.

It should be called FireFly:a man called Jane"
It takes place 10 years after the events of Serenity, we find out that Mal lost Serenity to Jane who is now the Captain, Jane ended up marrying Inara, Mal spends a lot of time in his bunk. The Doctor and Hailey end of married and we start the show with them not a member of the crew, and River now Rational is trying to fulfil her dream of taking over the universe.

I wonder if it could be an animated prequel set during the war? I can't imagine them doing something without Tudyk, so that would make a sequel less likely.
Animation would make it easier to work with everyone's schedule, and Alan Tudyk probably has his own voice booth at Disney by now.

Sir...I say Sir...I am a Star Trek fan. All one needs is some clever writing to 'hand wave' away something as inconvenient as a 'Death.'
Twin Brother? Evil Twin 'Dirtburne?' Washburne's Father who taught his son everything joins the crew? Long lost Uncle? Unknown brother? Alliance Clone of Washburne that the crew needs to rescue?
I could do this all day.

Or just go full 'Star Wars.'
"The Emperor is back now? Sure. Why not? How? Oh it doesn't matter? Fine."
If you want someone back badly enough people will ignore almost anything.

How about a robot with Wash's mind downloaded into it?
Or Wash is a Reaver now and they keep him on a leash?

Joss Wheadon was cancelled and doesn't seem like he's made a comeback but I don't know how you do something FireFly related without him. His writing and style was essential to the show, especially the cadences of each character. And yeah Wash is dead but Sci-Fi is Sci-FI. Maybe they have Tudyk come back as Wash's twin brother, Rinse.

It is tough to think about with Whedon gone.
But they could bring back Tim Minear, or Jane Esperson who are very good writers, and wrote for Firefly and Buffy and Angel.

They're already working on a Buffy reboot without Whedon. If they can do that without him, they should be able to do Firefly too.

They're working on it, but it remains to be seen how good it will be.
