High River RCMP nabbed three Ferraris and a Lamborghini after area residents complained of drivers using secondary highways to stretch the legs of their exotic sports cars.(photo by RCMP)

High River RCMP are investigating four drivers after residents reported seeing Lamborghinis and Ferraris flying down secondary highways at speeds exceeding 200 km/h, said Sgt. Larry Marzinzik.

"In the past, high-end vehicles built to operate at optimum speeds way above highway speeds have been in the area, very early in the morning or very late at night, using our roads as a drag strip for the purpose of using them for time trials," he said.

Well, you've got to admit, there are a lot of empty, straight, well paved roads in Alberta. It's not smart but it can be tempting.

Anyone can go 200+ km/h in a supercar. It takes someone dedicated to go 225 km/h in a Ford Focus. That was a good night.

Must be nice to own a Lamborghini or Ferrari and still find time to race it underground, assuming you're working your arse off to pay for it... I wonder what the average age of participants is for this?
 Must be a sweet life!

I saw both a Ferrari and a Lamborghini in Black Diamond as I was passing through on Sunday afternoon. Must have been a couple of these idiots.

Let's be honest, if i had one of these, I'd be tempted to the race the crap out of it too. At least they are using the car for its intended purpose....unlike some soccer mom in a massive SUV.

Funny, me too... I raced a Ferrari in my Mazda in Black Diamond back in April... why, I have no idea, but it was definitely an honour to get creamed by a Ferrari.

Before 7AM on a Sunday is at least picking a fairly safe time to be doing it. They're relatively responsible street racers.

Good point. These cars are built for speed. Alteast they are being used for their intended purpose.

Soccer moms in SUV's / Hummers, however... that I'll never get over. So ridiculous.

Interesting take on it. Some of them rural folks do like to go to church on Sunday morning though.

I wonder if we'd get a little more outrage if it was a bunch of 22 year-old guys roaring around in some goofy looking souped-up Hondas and Nissans.

I honestly don't have a problem with them doing this, EXCEPT that they are disrupting people in their homes... so for that reason they need to stop, or take it elsewhere.

I also don't want to open that huge can of worms that was the "stupid 20 year olds drive too fast" thread where I said I like to speed by 10 or 20 and all the old men told me to keep it in my pants.... BUT I think that if you buy a car that can go this fast, and you take it out to the country early morning/late night AND you aren't disturbing any residents, let'er rip and go for it. I don't think that should be against any laws. Just some guys having fun with their supercars. Anyone who had one would want to push it to the max. Doesn't harm anyone at all, except the driver if he screws up- his own doing.

Obviously more people would be pissed off. And I agree with the church comment, but I thought this was earlier, like first dawn? A lot depends on what time it is.

People go to church at 7am?

Frankly Im surprised Calgary doesnt have a dedicated race track where people can go race the crap out of their cars. With all the exotic machinery these days, there would definitely be demand if a place like Race City had "Free For All Fridays" or something.

There is no reason why these guys can't take their cars to a track and go excessive speeds there.
