Excellent choice and the first one that came to mind for me. Love that song. So underrated.

Those Shose - Eagles (The Long Run was a better album than Hotel California IMHO)

You Can't Always Get What You Want - Stones
The River - Springsteen

Temptation - The Tea Party (Too bad this band was Canadian because they never got the exposure in the U.S. that they deserved - just an incredible band - the new Doors IMHO)

Some older ones:

For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield
Be-Bop-A-Lula - Gene Vincent
Not Fade Away - Buddy Holly
I Wanna Be Sedated - The Ramones
Gloria - Them
Into The Mystic - Van Morrison
Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - The Animals

And more...

Personal Jesus - Depeche Mode
Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve
Ain't Even Done with the Night - John Cougar
Surrender - Cheap Trick
Sabotage - Beastie Boys

Where Did You Sleep Last Night

Something In The Way, Hell, the whole Unplugged Album is great!

Same holds true here, so many other awesome Nirvana songs you will never hear on the radio, Been a Son, Very Ape, Drain You, Silver, You Know You're Right, Lounge Act, Stay Away

I'm noticing alot of the songs on these lists are far less than underrated and get a fair bit of airplay/movie soundtrack treatments...anywho

Rag Doll - Aerosmith
Distant Early Warning - Rush
Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner - Iron Maiden
Big Dumb Rocket - Our Lady Peace
It's All In The Game - The Four Tops
Gypsy Eyes - Jimi Hendrix
The Bed's Too Big Without You - The Police
Don't Call Me N!gger, Whitey - Sly & The Family Stone
Verse Chorus Verse - Nirvana
I Can't Stop Loving You - Don Gibson
Commotion - CCR
Ghost Of Tom Joad - Rage Against The Machine
My Lovely Man - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Blow Up The Outside Of The World - Soundgarden
Strawberry Letter 23 - The Brothers Johnson
Twilight - Elliot Smith

More to come I'm sure

Another one that never made the greatest hits album...
Nazareth - Morning Dew

The 2x5 Album was the year after the greatest hits ablum I believe, a couple great songs from that one include Preservation & Games.
The No Mean City album has good songs too like, May the Sunshine & Star.

There are a lot of pretty big hits people seem to think are underrated?

But there is a lot of good stuff here, as well.

I suppose that may be true for some songs listed, yes, but keep in mind that even if a song hit #1, it doesn't mean it's a big hit. It may have been there for just a single week and then died off or got replaced by something crappy beause of the times, thus "underrated" or there may be a song that we all know by name and have heard often, but when most think of a band or artist, most people never remember that particular song, thus "underrated".

I could say Van Morrison as an example and most people would say Brown Eyed Girl or Moondance. On my list, "Into the Mystic", which was on Rolling Stones top 500 songs of all time, but many people may not know. Really ticked me off when I paid about $250 for the wife and I to go see him here in Edmonton and he didn't even play it though.

Underrated is all open to interpretation I suppose.
