Don't hate the trade. Feels like a B grade deal with how Weager has been playing. He could easily regress and is already has the worst +/- in the league. Look at how bad Andersson has been in Vegas, based on that alone we should be happy with both deals.
Although one day it would be something else to get the A+ 1st rounder/blue chip return other teams garner. Like St. Louis might get for Parayko. Like the Lindholm deal was an A+ return, but we still didn't get a blue chip prospect back... I can't recall the last time the Flames managed that.
At least this is better than the Phaneuf and Bouwmeester deals!

Castagna was taken 5 spots ahead of Brzustewicz and 10 spots ahead of Suniev. Curious where the Flames had him on their board back then.

TIL that Wolf isn't an impact player.

Calgary has turned a bunch of players into middle six players. Have no doubt they can find more.
Problem is we need to top line guys.

It took 3 hours from when the thread first started to when the deal was finalized!
I'm the only person left in Calgary with a working F5 key.

Really can't read into those Eric Francis "odds" from last week now. He had Weegar's chance of being traded as "Extremely Low"

Probably have to trade up from the NYR pick to get the 2nd one.
But they CAN!

Liked Weeger but he is on the decline. His term and salary were restricting. Only one I'd like to keep is Coleman.

Others have mentioned it, but I'm all in for drafting the Ruck twins with some combo of all these picks. They may not turn out but at worst, it'd be a cool story and would be cool watching them develop in our system.

I think they're assigning value to picks based on the average wins a certain pick adds to a team. Even if the difference is another 4th rounder, then it isn't a deal breaker in my eyes.
More picks will make the draft more fun, so there's that.

LOL - what a stupid formula (no personal offense as you aren't the athletic). I hope Conny tries that package to whoever owns the 12th overall pick and sees their reaction. Too bad the draft is virtual - would love to see the other GMs reaction.

Ya because we all know a bunch of middle six players are difficult to acquire and are how you win championships.

Based on Wolf, Pospisil, Kuznetsov, Zary, Coronato, Solovyov, Honzek, Gridin, Parekh, all of whom have made the NHL.
You can certainly call team that drafts a lot of NHLers outside of the top of the draft a good drafting team.
And I have little doubt that Wolf at the very least will be an impact player. Being a top 3 Calder candidate, maybe he already is.

More magic beans. And the loss of a quality player and quality guy who deservedly wore a letter, which could well have been a C, and left it all out there sacrificing his body.
Even if he hits with those picks and in 3 to 6 years, that’s a long way away.
Will see what happens with Kadri and Coleman of course in the next 42 hours but this team needs to be supplemented with quality vets who can be role models. Those mid level guys in age and development like Coronato, Frost,Farabee still need some veterans leadership.
My thought is that Conroy would use some of this draft capital in trades to get those players they will help the younger and mid talent up the ladder, but since he took over, I think he wanted to weaponize cap space and start building the team up. That really hasn’t come to fruition, to his surprise and disappointment I think, so now he’s gotta tear down more.
And this is a surprise. Weeger was 100% behind playing out his time here and being that role model and now he’s shipped out for an average return. Karri and Coleman also have expressed enjoyment here but Weeger really liked it. So for the Flames to pull the carpet from under him also has some not great vibes if being honest.

The Rucks have always played together. I imagine they will 100% want that to continue, I wonder if they will tell teams that during interviews and if it would make teams back off on drafting Markus after Liam is selected by someone else?

|
What? No.
This tells me "Big Mur" is finally seeing the light. He can save even more money and cash in when this team contends again. With the way Conroy is stockpiling picks, combined with the success of their draft team. Big Mur would be best to sit back and watch the value of his franchise grow immensely with the new building and a stable of young stars.
