Weegar doesn’t strike me as a guy who’s going to say no, likely just trying to acclimatize himself to the shock factor and the figure out the plan in Utah moving forward.

I did mention at the beginning of the season that weegar would likely be asking out if the flames went full rebuild. That’s not what he signed up for but things just didn’t work out the way he had hoped. Not a full trade demand but the willingness to leave is not surprising at all. Loves Calgary but isn’t getting any younger.

Because sometimes location and liking the city and your teammates means more. If it didn't Backlund would be on his way to Colorado. It's a big move.

This is similar to the Hanifin deal.. took hours for the return to be figured out.
I hope he waives though.

Well the last transactions the players have looked out for themselves, This is professional sports. If a team is not doing everything possible to improve , I assure you their opponents are, you can also bet that the player is going to do whatever is in their best interest. We where burnt with Tkachuk, Rasmus, Hanifin, ........., Im 100 % fine if its leaked because the return is excellent.

If Weegar was blindsided by this and isn't on board the Flames allowing it to leak would be very embarrassing.

Have to think it's a heck of a deal for how fast its come together for our top d-man with lots of term and for it to leak before Weegar agreed to it.

Top 6 wingers: Magiapane, Toffoli
On top of that:
Vladar: gone
Dube: gone
Huberdeau: Gone for the season, potentially longer
Kadri and Coleman: heavily rumored to be traded
If Coleman and Kadri trades go through, from the 2022/23 roster the Flames will have:
Backlund....if you don't count rookies that played under 5 games....just Backlund.

Thanks for explaining Rebiggle!!!

True, but every week another teammate walks out the door. If he likes mountains they have them in Utah h as well.

Why do people automatically jump to the idea that someone on the Flames’ side leaked it?

It's not just the Flames. There's Utah involved in this. The player agents, their staff are involved. Other management teams might be involved. Lots of back-channelling goes on.

Not when the team basically say you are no longer part of the plan
There could be other teams but there is no guarantee they can afford or want him
Utah is not a bad place and not that much different from Calgary compared to other places

Maybe the holdup is other pieces and names being added/subtracted at the last minute. Like with Philly last year.

Yup. Could just as plausible Utah side leaked it to put pressure on Weegar so they get answer quicker and move on to other trades/moves.

Can’t help but think how valuable Whitecloud has become in just a short time here, only reason they could afford to move on from Weegs.

Even if it was Utah leaking it that would be embarassing for the Flames.
