If Weegar does move and the Flames move their 9th veteran for picks and prospects under Conroy are we rebuilding yet or is that still TBD? Is it possible this could be a ruse to distract from their efforts to just sneak in to the playoffs and have a chance?

IMO if the trade goes through the return will be good. the Flames have no reason to trade him otherwise. That they are asking him to waive means the return is decent.
If it's Beaudoin, Lamoreaux, and a 26 1st it's a beauty trade for a rebuild.

I could see why someone would pause before committing to Utah for the next half decade.
It's got some quirks... and it's not like they've been an undeniably successful franchise.
I'm honestly doubtful that he will accept. But if Friedman is reporting on it, it must be pretty close.

Flames will easily have the worst roster in the league if two of Weegar, Kadri, and Coleman leave.
Also, whoever hated the addition of Whitecloud should be happy now. This definitely opened it up imo.

As someone who understands this process, this is quite the blunder that it's taken this long to get clarity on whether the player will waive NTC for Utah. Or EF jumped the gun.

They finally have stable ownership. They’re not perennially selling off all their talent and taking on dead contracts. They’re currently on the upswing. And they’re a refreshed franchise in a new city happy to have them. Even if their shine wears off it will likely be at or after Weeger’s contract is up.
