He's not a cap dump, but he's not worth Kadri straight up due to position and some of the off ice issues.

So you'd need some type of addition (likely a 2nd, as a first feels like too much).

But I do think on his own Nichushkin is worth a 1st to the right team. And if you are willing to take a bad contract back on top of that (ie Kotkaniemi) then you'd be looking at a pretty good package.

Nichuskin is not going to be an easy guy to flip. He quit on his team in the playoffs.

Why would someone give a 1st with that kind of risk.

I have it on pretty good authority that the Avs willing to trade Nichushkin is the result of there being a rift between him & the coaches who have given Landeskog playing time at his expense. First line duties and First powerplay were shifted from Nichushkin to Landeskog as the season progressed.

Nichushkin played quite well with them in their Cup run and then subsequent seasons was given more important role. His ice time this year has dropped to 17:57 which is the lowest since 2020-21 season.

If I'm CC I'd be making that trade (Kadri <--> Nichushkin + 2nd) only if I'm pretty sure I can then move Nichushkin on deadline day to the "right team" for a 1st, or some combination of futures that I like.

And that's all assuming I couldn't just deal Kadri somewhere for a 1st+ without retention.

He was also dominant in the Avs cup run. Their 4th most important played in that run. That's probably why... they wouldn't have won the Cup without him.

Would only make the Kadri for Nichuskin trade if the flames had a buyer already lined up for Nichuskin and the return included a 1st. Not sure if that’s possible.

There's a big role. For Nichushkin in CGY if he embraced it. A top role for 4 years .

If he comes here upping his game with more playing time then you trade him next deadline for a haul. BOOM

Or maybe they keep Nichushkin in that top role that he's looking for to boost up his value and trade him for a haul in a year from now? (and extra picks in a superior 2027 draft)

Kind of funny that Kadri leveraging his NTC might screw us over a second time, but this time we are on the trading side of the equation instead of the buying side of the equation.

I'm told LA is the team in the West and Carolina is the team in the East.
