If #1 centre Thomas is such a great player and is young at 26 then why trade him at all. First line centres don’t grow on trees and he’s only 26! What is going on in the background here because none of it makes sense to me.

Maybe the Blues don't see themselves competing for the next 3+ years and identify that it may be beneficial for the long-term outlook of the team that they capitalize on a prime aged asset rather waiting until he's 30 years old to trade him.

St.L may realize their core can’t get them where they want and it’s time to rebuild

Rebuilds take 5-7 years if lucky

He won’t help them during that time period

Dont tell Montreal

Rebuilds that take that long arent rebuilds they are just poorly managed teams

Right? From (albeit flukey) cup final to contender again in 5 years.

maybe 4, they did make the playoffs last year though weren't expected to be a threat.
