Here’s some no goodness from HoFer Matheson. Honestly can they not rescind HoF due to ineptitude?

Matheson wonders aloud on twitter why Mangiapanne played one shift and left the game “trade incoming”?

Turns out (and many people pointed it out) that you have to play a game when you are sent down so that you can get recalled.

It’s not my job to understand that basic rule, but wouldn’t an alleged journalist know that?

Hockey knowledge among the Oilers beat writers is non-existent. Matheson, Staples, Stauffer…… all completely clueless.

Meh, I’m so checked out on this team there’s nothing left. Season ticket holder for over two decades, dropped em this year and haven’t watched a minute of hockey voluntarily this year. They deserve to miss the playoffs, it may be the only thing that wakes them up, but I doubt it. Takes a an extra special level of idiocy to continue to screw up this bad, there’s not a deserving person im the org right now of success that I can see - well maybe Hyman and Nuge, that’s it.

Thye have given a lot of time and money back to me this season lol.

I don't feel sorry for Mangiapane, but he must hate being there more and more every day

Over 27.5 minutes for Mcavi last night? LOL. To scrape by Ottawa in OT.

Those late game heroics with the goalie pulled has really saved their season, which probably should be on life support.

And they wonder why they have trouble with morale when some players get 6 minutes.

“Why isn’t Mangiapanne or anyone else providing 50 points here when they did it elsewhere? They are useless.”

Thankfully the Senators play in the Eastern Conference as the Oilers have owned them for a long time winning 16 out of the last 20 games against them. Even when it was 4-2 I knew that the Oilers would come back and win it.

Every trade rumour involving the Coilers is some variation of “if only Mangiapane could be traded, we could afford to upgrade”. Gotta say, when he first signed I didn’t foresee Mangiapane being so instrumental in handicapping the Oilers.

Max pain for the Oilers:

Trading their 2027 pick for help now, and still imploding down the stretch. They are 5 points from a top 10 pick. San Jose owns their 2026 1st round pick, but it is top 12 protected. If the Oilers move their 2027 pick, then the 2026 pick becomes unprotected. Imagine they do that and still crash-out? Doubtful they go all the way into the top 10, but they are a lotto-blessed team! Would be hilarious watching the Oilers hand over a 1st overall - 5th overall pick to them while missing the playoffs, and whispers of a McDavid (and maybe Draisaitl!) trade demand start circulating.

However, that would suck for the Flames. San Jose is already looklng like a powerhouse in the making. 2 firsts this year and 2 seconds, plus a lot of young talented prospects that are still coming up that pipeline. Plus, you can count on the fact that San Jose will be a destination again for UFAs as they once were. I would rather they don't get any more high-end ammo there.

However.. maybe it would be acceptable just to watch the peak pain up north!

3 of the last 5 Oilers wins have been in OT after scoring the tying goal with the goalie pulled. They are teetering on being a bottom 5 team propped up by flukes.

It's frustrating that the Oilers are pretty much guaranteed to make the third round. Vegas and LA are going nowhere, the Sharks and Ducks are a year or two early in their development cycle, and the Kraken are pretenders. The Oilers have a better chance of making the third round than the Avs. Colorado will have to go through one of Minnesota or Dallas.

I can't take the NHL seriously with this playoff format. It rewards teams in mediocre divisions. The Oilers are at best a middle of the pack team, but McDrai will put them ahead of the rest of the Pacific. By the time the conference finals rolls around they'll play a beaten up Avs or Wild, and the Oilers will be fresh as a daisy. I know many on here will doubt it, but look at how the last two years played out. I don't see how anything will change this season. It sucks!

This isn't even remotely true. The Oilers have a better chance of missing the playoffs than making the 3rd round. Their next 4 games are Carolina, Vegas, Colorado, Dallas. Easy 1-3 if they're lucky. At that point they're on the outside looking in, seeing as they are holding on to a playoff spot by 4 points and all teams chasing them have games in hand.

There is 8 teams (6 Pacific, 2 Cental) fighting for 5 spots, 3 Pacific spots and 2 WC. Oilers are far from a lock to even make playoffs, let alone make noise if they get there.

The NHL needs to change the points system. Absolutely ridiculous that those pretenders are rewarded for dragging games to overtime when they are unable to put teams away 5 on 5.
