So what though? His contract is a bargain. It’s not like he’s 36 and or Darnell Nurse bad.
Even if he never hits his career highs again, he’s still a top 4 guy, who can move the puck and is versatile.

A strategy of saying no retention on Kadri is fine by me. Then depending on how the market responds on trade deadline day you can decide if you retain or not, or if someone just meets your ask without retention.

Winnipeg's farm team seems pretty heavy on veterans and guys who are their top forward prospects like Lambert, Yager, and Barlow, are not exactly thriving there. It makes me wonder if they have a development issue in the organization at the moment.
I'd take a flyer on Lambert as well, but I wouldn't give up much. It might just be better to see if he goes on waivers next season and try to claim him, then give him an audition. Or trade for him if he clears waivers and work with him on the farm for a bit.
