Default Smoke-less Cigarettes???

Actually I'm not "smoking"

For the smokers out there, would you use this as a stop-smoking aid?

For me, as a non-smoker, I might think of trying such a product, only because I have heard that nicotine can be good for stimulating the brain and what-not. Would nicotine on it's own be any worse for people than caffeine (SP?)?

Nicotine is a very addictive drug.

Why would you want to risk developing an addiction?

I don't think nicotine itself, is bad for you. It's all the other stuff they add into the delivery system that is bad for you.

So if someone could come up with a product that would provide smokers with a nicotine delivery system that would keep all the carcinigins out, could be win win for everyone.

I'm fairly certain this product is being marketed to smokers.
Likely the type of people who aren't overly concerned about develping an addiction to nicotine.

In fairness to Dion, Redvan did say he's a non-smoker who would consider trying it.
I've never had an interest in smoking, but I admit that I have had interest in using nicotine gum or some other equivalent at times when I was really really pressed for study time at university, because of the memory improving effect of nicotine. The chance of addiction was certainly a discouraging factor for me, though to tell the truth the bigger reason I didn't try it was the cost. I might be willing to try that when things get really really pressing during the next degree.

I understand that.

My point was directed at REDVAN who does not smoke. He was considering using the product.

I am not considering it because it's not in Canada, I am just saying that it's like any addictive substance. A large part of the addiction is the lack of willpower.

I am just saying that nicotine, like some other "legal" drugs does have it's upside, and a non-harmful way to get nicotine by itself woulnd't be the worst idea. I would consider trying it due to mental alertness and so on, just like drinking a coffee.

There's also the withdrawal effects. Ask any smoker who has tried to quit smoking - or more importantly the ones who have failed in their attempts. They say the addictive nature of nicotine is as bad as say using heroin or cocaine. IMO not a product that I would ever consider using.

Sorry ... there's no way Chinese electronics can replace a good Cuban and a glass of port or cognac.

Nicotine is devolped naturally by the human body, when you use artificial means to deliver it your body stops making naturally and you become dependant on it. I dont suggest it to anyone who isnt already a tobbacco user.

Agreed, but as an avid smoker I would love something like this. Having the nicotine fix w/out the toxins sounds like a great idea to me. Let's just see how long it takes tobacco lobbyists to kill this from ever reaching north america.

Oh boy...

Only a non-smoker would say that.

I'm sorry, but I smoked for 26 years...up to 2 packs a day toward the end. It is an awful, awful addiction that many people struggle with on a daily basis. It just kills me when someone says "Oh...just quit. It's not that hard."

I've been quit now for almost 15 months. It was the HARDEST thing I've ever done in my life and is the world's MOST ADDICTIVE drug. I'll always have to watch myself to never even have a single puff of a cigarette again because once that nicotine gets back in my system (like an ex-drinker who has a single shot), I'm right back at it again.

Please don't take smoking or the use of nicotine in general lightly.

It's funny, just how easy it is for those who perhaps have never faced an addiction to say that it's all about willpower. I wish it were that simple because I would have been done with this a long time ago.

Having never smoked I agree what you and Oil Killer are saying. My mother said it was the hardest thing she ever did. Co workers have said much the same thing. Maybe it takes them to get addicted to truely understand what you guys are saying.

No kidding ... non-smokers just don't get that. There's a reason nicotine is said to be as addictive as heroine, and it's not just for hyperbole. I quit once for over a year. One slip and I was back at it. I've now settled for the next best thing. I've gone from a pack a day of cigarettes to one cigar a day (unless I'm camping or playing poker). I figure if I'm going to smoke, I should at least try to keep it down to a dull roar.

You guys are right I have never smoked. But I know lots of people who have casually smoked at bars and what not, or they only smoke while fishing or something like that.

What makes it so they can smoke once or twice and not be addicted? My point is not that it's easy to quit if you only have willpower and have been smoking for 20 years, but that someone who has NOT smoked for 20 years could not become addicted if they just used a little willpower.

I am not trying to offend any smokers, because I have smokers in my family who can't quit either. I know it's not just willpower.

Plus, there are other things a lot of people are addicted to: alcoholic drinks, harder drugs, and even good old sugar... and it's hard to stop once you get started.

Yeah, but smokers could have invoked that will power thing.....like....Before they started Smoking!!! I kid, I kid.

I used to chew tobacco, not very much, like about a can a week, at my peak maybe a 20gram can every 4 days type of thing. I did it regularly for about 3 years when I was like 19 to 22 and spent 2 years trying to ditch that habit afterwards. I would go 6 months and one day something in my brain would trigger and I'd be walking around spitting all over the place before I knew what happened. So yeah once you get the slightest bit of addiction in your system it really messes with your mind and is unbelievably hard to kick.

You are in your early 20's right? When I was that age; all of my friends were "smokers but unly when drinking." Out of 20 of us; I was the only one not to get hooked. But let me tell you it was touch and go there for a while for me. As you said will power was a factor; but it was just as I was becoming adicted.

Some people can be social smokers, but most can't. Even now when I have my one or two smokes per year, there are times when I feel like I want another a few hours later.
