Most of the time I agree, you play to win.
But in this tourney, it seems like the accuracy rate in final is much lower. I haven't checked the stats though.
We've seen numerous examples though where the person leading into final doesn't win because they bet big and get it wrong, and the 2nd or 3rd place person bets small.

Yeah that was good betting in final. Obviously there is no perfect strategy but I feel like he maximized his odds of winning if he got it right or wrong. He blocked out the third place contestant with his bet completely.

Will some explain Final Jeopardy betting strategy today (Friday), or did the one contestant just make a mistake? Was bizarre, I thought.

Ha just came to post the same thing. Why on earth would you bet enough to come up 1 dollar short of the lead. Didn't cost her, but she must have done the math wrong.
