I like Darren Dreger - he's clearly connected with the Flames. As far as insiders go, he's quite classy and respectful.
But it would be nice if they had another regular guy with some inside information. The Friedman segments on Fan960 were always good radio.
Pierre LeBrun and Chris Johnston are with TSN. David Pagnotta (not as accurate) is with Daily Faceoff. Kevin Weekes is with ESPN.
Just because the Flames may be rebuilding, it would be nice to hear from guys like Cosentino, Pronman, and Wheeler once in a while.

I dislike how some in the media like to have a controversial opinion like what happened in this case with Frank, and hide behind using a tweet or online post. They put it out there to get the masses to feast on the meat, and get all the hits and views they want with their bit, but when called out in peson to their face they get defensive. Whatever happened to good old debate and not going off the deep end if someone disagrees with you...? Those guys on the radio were pretty good about it and chill.

They need to fill time and Servalli is a blow hard who pretends to be in the know and speaks with confidence on his rumors so he ticks the box. Maybe he is connected but it doesn't seem like it as he's always wrong and way out of step with everybody else.
I think he deserves every bit of this heat for the latest appearance though.
Putting where the president sits on the political spectrum aside and right v left because I don't care that much about that (and even if you're willing to disregard the increasingly likely possibility that he molested a 13 year old girl) it is absolutely mind boggling that we have lemmings in canada defending trump after he's repeatedly talking about taking over our damned country and in the middle of a pretty vicious trade war to that end that's cost a lot of people in our country their livelihood.
Anyone acting surprised that Canadians are then questioning or getting mad at anybody cozying up to him and his circle and pretending he's just another president who hasn't threatened our existence as a nation and saying aw shucks they've all done crazy things they are all the same they were just respecting the office by going to visit him, you're either dense or willfully naive. It goes beyond I am right wing or I am left wing now if you have any brainpower and loyalty to our country.
Anyway that rant over been listening to barn burner a ton lately. Rhett seems out of sorts and cranky the last couple weeks but I still like the saltiness/bluntness he brings think the three of them are great and we are lucky to have them. I like Steinberg too really glad we have both those shows. The sportsnet intermission and web editorials with Francis are hard to take for me in comparison. Even when I don't agree with the takes I feel like all the podcast guys are invested in the team and care if we win.

This whole thing with Frank was just embarrassing, he came across incredibly ignorant. The hypothetical whataboutism stuff is annoying, and didn't even make much sense. People can be disappointed with team meeting with Trump and still be happy their country won the gold medal. It's disappointing to see the players ignore the ignorant comments about the womens team. I'm also not surprised that hockey players wouldn't have a problem with it.
We're seeing in real time that having money allows you to get away with a lot, so millionaires pretending that there's nothing wrong with the things occurring in their country because it doesn't really affect their lives is also just kind of gross. At the same time I kind of understand why players might feel obligated to go, and why some of them may just not care about any of that political stuff.

I loved the honoring of Gaudreau. I liked that Tkachuk and Werenski did that and took the kids out for the photo. One of the classiest post-win things I've seen.
At the same time, placating trump over the phone by chuckling at his ####y joke and then taking him up on a visit that was undoubtedly all about publicity for him and being served a ####y MacDonald's delivery for it is pretty sad and gross.
So I guess multiple things can be true at the same time.
And get this: Apparently Matthews has a Martin Luther King Jr. tattoo on his torso with the quote: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
I mean omg.. talk about missing the point of something you permanently stamped onto yourself. And he had the sway of the captaincy in that situation and completely wilted and sucked up to a guy MLK Jr undoubtedly would have stood up against.
A guy with Latin American heritage on his mom's side, on top of that.
Like lol.. I guess we shouldn't expect much from hockey players. But what does Austin Matthews stand for, exactly.. anything? I guess not. Bro is just there, going wherever the wind through his pornstache takes him.

I’ve always found Seravelli to be arrogant and condescending. He seemed particularly smarmy towards Pat Steinberg for some reason. Just not someone I want to listen to. I skip those segments whenever he’s on Flames Talk or Barn Burner.

I agree with this. And considering how often he was wrong, it didn't make sense to be that arrogant.

He's not quite as much of a donkey as he was with the BB crew for example (because they'd play on his level), but yeah there's an air of "talking down" to Steinberg on his radio spots.
Probably because Pat is a certified good dude who keeps things respectful and won't push back on him.

Cosentino would be a great guest to have leading up to the draft. I’d rather listen to him talk about prospects over listen to Bader talk about his model for an hour

Pinder is going to lose his #### over the win last night, especially with Kadri getting a pair. He's been on the "trade these guys ASAP and commit to losing for draft position" for a while now. Last night's win jumped the Flames past two teams after St. Louis had pulled within one point of the Flames. Kadri's two goals is just going to be salt in the wound. I wouldn't be surprised to hear the boys rip the team for not being able to do anything right and at this point they may have a point. Best opportunity this team has possibly ever had to get that elusive top pick but they can't make the commitment needed to earn the selection. Should be an entertaining listen today. Over/under of how many f-bombs Rhett drops?

Pump and dump time. Don't think there will be much grief.

Yep, this is classic Flames. Holding these players too long and now we hurt the rebuild. I can see us picking 6 or 7th instead of top 3.

Post-Olympic hangover week for the insiders it seems.
- Seravalli going full buffoon, even by his standards.
- Dreger getting butthurt, then doubling-down, over a doctor opining, correctly, what Crosby's injury was, beating him to the scoop. (Bruce Boudreau also said it was an MCL injury the same day it happened BTW...)
- Friedman with the shameless and clearly false water carry for the five non-Whitehouse attendees. Says all five wanted to go but scheduling issues made attending impossible.
Schedule prevented Connor from attending, while teammate Hellybuyck on the same flight could?
Schedule prevented Guentzel from attending, while Matthews on the same flight and playing in the same game could?

I like Dreger too, although I feel he's put in a bit of a tough spot going on BB every week. Feels like the guys always want some juicy tidbits from him every appearance but we all know it just doesn't work out like that. That's why I think it feels like he's always telling us what we don't want to hear.
Definitely a far more pleasant person to listen to than Fronk though that's for sure!

Hmmm, thread is on the Back Burner vlog which features Rhett, Boomer, and Pinder. Why would Pinder's opinion matter in a thread dedicated to that trio? You're right, probably doesn't.
