I hope they’re not getting cute like that - everyone has just had three weeks off. It isn’t Christmas. Coleman didn’t bother bringing his family back to town, and everyone knows what time of year it is.
It would be less considerate of them to drag this out IMO.

My guess is there is a good enough offer on the table for Coleman, but Conroy is waiting to see if Dallas can up to match it because that’s Blake’s preferred destination. Because Conroy is such a great guy.

I love CC and what he's been doing, but man he must be a tough guy to trade with. Seems like these deals take forever to be completed. Not necessarily a bad thing though, obviously. Just as a fan who is on here constantly, it's a real grind haha

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense to wait until the team is back in Calgary if Coleman's family has already moved out. I can see a player with family in the city being thankful for that kind of treatment, but I can't see Coleman caring so much about that unless he wants a last game in front of the C of red. That seems a bit silly though because he'll still be celebrated and cheered for during his first game back.
If the price has been met, make the trade. If teams are still offering a bit more to edge out another team, hold on.

I feel like the amount of trade protection that he inherited is the root cause of the problem, not the guy trying to work around / with them.

I find it hard to believe the Flames have had their price met and deal in place but will hold off pulling the trigger and play him in 3 games before they return home. Just is very irrational

Agreed. Deal isn’t made or price isn’t from a team Coleman will go to

It doesn’t look like that’s unique to Conroy - better than half the league is still capped out. Vegas couldn’t even do the Andersson deal at 50% without sending us Whitecloud.

I doubt there's a deal in place. My guess is that even if they're satisfied with what's been sent their way, they are continuing to field offers and to gauge interest and will wait to see if things intensify further with a soft deadline before the real one hits. That's kind of what happened with Andersson, and then they pulled the trigger once they got home and had everybody in one place.

TSN insider trading:
Stamkos wants to stay in NSH but is prepared if Preds come to him with trade offer.
He has prepared a list of preferred destinations he is willing to go to and at the top is Tampa, Dallas, and then Minnesota
To a certain degree NJ is on that list (Devils tried to sign him 2 years ago)
LeBrun thinks this is more likely a summer trade
At this point in time Detroit is not a place Tyler Myers is willing to go
But that doesn't mean he won't be traded before deadline
Myers is inclined to wait to see if another team makes a deal with the Canucks
Johnston thinks Myers would like to play in Dallas
Canucks willing to listen on Boeser, DeBrusk, Pettersen
Most likely to be moved in Vancouver is Evander Kane
Toronto willing to move OEL, Carlo, Domi under right circumstances
Panthers think if they go 5-0 or 4-1 they are back in the playoff mix
LeBrun thinks anything short of that they become sellers
Greer, Bobvrosky could be moved
Not a lot of activity around Binnington
Schenn's name is out there, he doesn't have a stomach for a rebuild
If Myers gets moved, Faulk and Ristoainen become the most available RHS D

Dreger says Colorado is interested but Kadri isn't the first guy on their list
Chris Johnston says the Flames don't want to retain salary on Kadri, but it might be something they have to do at the 11th hour to make the deal

Not sure that's accurate
During a Flames game Andersson trade (intermission with Pat Steinberg) was discussed sounded like it a trade was in place pending a new contract or close while the Flames were in Chicago (i.e. Bruins speculation)
Delay was around the player agreeing to a new deal, which never occurred

My guess is Colorado might like Trocheck more as a pure defensive center behind Nelson and Mackinnon at this point.

Sounds like they're gonna dump Kadri regardless before the deadline. Just limit the return on one of the trades (Coleman or Kadri) due to the lack of retention spots.
I mean I guess they could find a cap broker for Coleman.

Don’t think you can do the “3rd team for cap retention” type of trade as much as of this year, can you? Pretty sure they put a rule in where if a player is traded to a team, that player can’t be traded with cap retention to another team for a few months (not sure how many).

It probably makes sense for Calgary to see what happens with O’Reilly in Nashville before getting a better sense of the market return for a comparable No. 2 center. O’Reilly’s contract (one more year at $4.5 million) is more appealing, so the domino would make sense with O’Reilly going first to set the price.

The rule only applies to double retention. If you acquire a player with salary retained, you have to wait 75 in-season days before you can trade him away with additional retention.
If somebody traded for Kadri at full price, they would be eligible to trade him away again with retention immediately.

Yep, you can still do a quick 3 way with the middle team using their retention spot
75 days wait on double retention. Meaning you can't retain on Coleman if the acquiring team deals him within 75 days of the first trade.
Meaning you can find a cap broker who then uses one of their retention slots for you and send (Coleman) to the acquiring team. Might cost a 4th or something but it keeps Coleman's trade value up.
