Yeah, I meant that spending draft capital will be required to get a guy like Thomas. Will be 27 next year though so you'll have to be a cautious who else you're throwing their way.

Flames and Blues have made these deals before, there's history. But he's a top line RHS center. Think we want one of those don't we? I say spend on a guy like Thomas if you can land him.

I can see all of Weegar, Kadri and Coleman being dealt.

If Conroy's eyeing up Thomas you can get all sorts of assets to give to STL to make that happen.

On the positive side in 3 or 4 years we are probably back in this thread talking about if we can get another 28th overall pick, B prospect and a retread for Thomas if we use a retention spot and talking about how things might have been different if we got Stenberg instead of St. Lou haha. To be clear if he can be had for decent value I like the player, just doesn't seem like a good fit timing wise.
I personally don't think the flames are ready to spend but STL is that team should be competing for 7/8 in the division.

After this year, you'd get 4 years of his prime @ 8.125 mil and he'll be UFA at 31. Fantastic value.

Imagine landing Thomas, winning the McKenna sweeps. That's a quick massive upgrade on the FW group. Spend!

Thomas will be 27 this summer. I'll be pretty disappointed if CC gives up futures for him.

I'm told the market for Mack is thin because of that contract. You'd need a young team looking to solidify the backend. Everyone connects OTT but told I'm told "not there yet and they don't have 2026 picks is which CC is hunting."

Was considering making this title, "I'm not Mike Grier" but here goes:

Sharks #1 priority continues to be a defenseman. They are looking specifically at right handed shooting defenseman. They missed out on Andersson as Vegas was his choice.

They put a feeler out on Ristolainen. The market on him is high. They have interest in guys like Whitecloud, Carlo and Schneider (among others) as well.

Thomas is a 1st line center and has a very good long-term contract.

I'm sure if we trade Coleman and Kadri, this team will have lots they can throw back from Thomas without giving up our 1st for the next couple years.

I suspect if they're legitimately looking at Thomas, they figure cleaning house this year will help them finish bottom 3 (lottery willing) and adding his talent as the new 1C will speed up whatever rebiggling was planned. Then they hit the FA market.

Flames are holding Whitecloud unless someone backs up the truck, he only gets more valuable in future years. His contract is a beauty.

happy to hear this and even that the market is soft for Mack...i just feel like they are more valuable to the Flames right now.

This is great news. Would love a deal with Utah. I think Minnesota acquiring Hughes put pressure on all the other central teams wanting to either make the big dance or improve their odds in the big dance. Both apply to Utah.

Would be a great trade partner because of the assets they have. Would love to trade them multiple pieces for really high end assets.

For example:

To Utah: Kadri + Whitecloud + Vegas 1st round pick
To Calgary: 2026 1st round pick + Desnoyers

Utah has some great prospects (with size) and should have some good mid-range picks. Sign me up

Simashev, Hayton, But, Beaudoin, Desnoyers. I can see the Flames likening a Utah deal.

It was my thought too initially. But he's a legit 1C, will likely be so for the remainder of his contract (to 31), which is inside the Flames rebuild window, and he makes 2C money going forward IMO. And the centre prospects in the draft don't look great.
