Just pulled the trigger on a Palm Springs golf trip in April, there are 8 of us going. The accommodations, transportation and 5 of the 6 rounds have been booked.

So far we have Silver Rock, PGA West Mountain, PGA West Dunes, PGA West Stadium, PGA West Nicklaus, and will book a final one likely Escena.

To say I'm excited would be an understatement! Anything we should be aware of from the folks that have been to Palm Springs area?

First of all, some good tracks there, and I hope you have a blast!

Second, The Nest. That's where you want to end up at least one night!

Haha Nest is good but an older crowd. Am told the new Thomson Hotel has a trendy bar.

I really liked the PGA courses, Mountain Course in particular. Silver Rock not so much, but just me. Part of a subdivision that went broke.

I have heard good things about Escena, just played Cimarron nearby and really liked it. Also there is Indian Canyon south course in old Palm Springs which I really enjoy.

We are going back in April and have times at Desert Willow and PGA Mountain course.

Enjoy!

Desert Willow is great, and I also really like Indian Wells. The Nest is basically hilarious, and you can have a really good time there, or it can be terrible. The professional ladies are entertaining though!

I got fitted for a new driver at my club. Turns out I need a higher loft and stiffer shaft. I never realized how much a difference that shafts can make. I gained 30 yards from my Sim Max driver...but watch.

What's club speed do you swing your driver at?

96 mph. I'm old. I can't swing it 100+ like my kid can.

They suggested the Ping G440 K 12 degree. I swing down on the ball. The shaft was a PRJX Denali RED 60 6.0. So a little stiffer than what I was using.

That Ping is very tempting. My friend has the previous model and it is very difficult to mis-hit, which makes it very funny watching him mis-hit it.

I want to get fitted for a driver but I need to fix my swing first I think. I lose so much speed on my driver that I’m basically better off with my 7 wood half the time.

I’m going to go for a lesson before this season really kicks off to have a pro take a proper look, but any drills that have actually helped people up their swing speed? I think my issue is primarily mental since I can swing other woods just fine.

It's pricey (especially if you don't have a radar already), but the Stack system works great. My son gains about 5-10 mph in a month when he uses it in the off season.

Are you sure it's a speed issue and not an angle of attack issue? It's a swing fix either way I guess, but I had a similar problem and the issue was that I'd fixed my iron swing to the point where I was compressing the F out of the ball off the turf, but having trouble getting much above 0 degrees angle of attack on the driver, so it was launching super low. It doesn't really matter much if you're swinging hard if you're not hitting up on it off the tee. I ended up having to make some setup changes and swing thoughts to fix that specifically.
