Yeah big difference between drafting the next Joel Hanley with a 2nd or 3rd round pick or the next Kuznetsov (who appears to have 3-5 trajectory?).

Defense first dmen with size that can skate make a huge impact regardless of offensive production.

Perhaps, you could just not play him 23 minutes a night.
I wonder how many minutes McDavid plays are because he decides to stay on the ice. He definitely does it sometimes.

He certainly has earned gloating rights to this point in his career.

He can't because he is broken.

Delayed return for the Conna.

"Fatigue" but probably more along the lines of bruised ego.

Every time he's been the captain of a team in a championship, they've been the runner-up.

Probably because his big motivation to his teammates is him screaming ‘let’s ####ing go!’

Again, I think this experience of the Olympics, good and bad, has him even more motivated to move on from the Oilers and find success in a more organized organization with a proper structure and system and roster build, so he can chase the Cup.

Him and the Oilers generally have an exit strategy, and have for a few years now, which is why no side got too concerned in the media when the extension didn’t occur until September. A cap friendly contract means it won’t be that hard for a desired team to fit him in.
Instead of this being the speculation in summer 2027 (as he wouldn’t again go into a contract year without a new deal) this may well occur this summer now. We will see.

I read that Mavi had two fingers taped together at the end. Maybe a broken finger?

I’d be mad if I was him though. He left money on the table and bowman frittered it away on long term big money contracts for bums. And they are handcuffed on the salary cap again with less assets than before. And a salary cap in the playoffs means no last minute mega salaries dropping in.

There won’t be any contract extension because there won’t be anything of value left to extend with.

It’s so beautiful.

The PTSD flashback night sweats (with good shoes) are going to destroy him. He’s gonna wake up every night for years from black and white WWII like reruns of his stupid play that led Makar and MacK out of safety into their best Bouchard & Draisaitl impressions on that losing goal.

Oh well that explains everything. The broken finger was the reason he couldn’t back check in the gold medal game.

I must apologize for my use of the term “bums”.

I meant to say press box dwelling popcorn eaters.

My Oilers fan coworker has a theory that the reason Edmonton's depth is so "bad" is that the organization subtly sends the message that they don't matter and they're just filling time until McD and Draisaitl get back on the ice.

"I guess our other players are going to have to play some hockey too" is such a bad message. This shouldn't even be hard. How about something like "we have a great team and I'm confident our depth will win us games"?

Frankly it also explains McDavid's "I need to do it all" style of play. His team expects him to.

Oiler fans keep saying they are 2nd in the Pacific...they don't grasp the situation the team is actually in IMO
