I'd say mine would be pretty close, but McDavid would be a lot lower. As would Parayko. Theodore would and maybe Wilson be higher.

You have to ding Makar and McDavid a little for their play on the final play. Moments matter.
I give both an 8 .

I’m not going critique your ratings and I think it’s a great idea for a thread.
Would your ratings be different if Canada had scored one more goal today? Expectations is a difficult criteria on a 10 point scale. It’s like doing staff appraisals when a few of the team are better than others.

Honestly, maybe it was just the broadcast bias, but I really didn't notice anyone outside of the usual suspects at the top. Usually there's a player or two down the lineup that shows up, but it didn't really happen in a meaningful way. Suzuki was decent.

Honestly, no. It sucks that they ultimately didn’t deliver but it was just a feel rating of how guys performed. I can see the points of Jiri of knocking Makar and McDavid down a notch for that final play. It’s all part of the conversation.

I don’t think Binnington is a 9, maybe 5-6
He didn’t lose it for them but it’s not like they depended on him to win.

They didnt lose because of Binnington. But he also didnt steal or win anything. Hellebuyck on the other end sealed this game. That's the big difference imo.
Binnington was fine. A 7 at best. But not a game changer. We need a game changer in net again.

Time for a goalie summit. Summit it up Canada.

Thought Horvat had a good game, I'd bump him higher based on today only.
Same for McDavid much lower.
Didn't get to watch every minute of the other games though.

I bumped down Binnington, Reinhart
I bumped up Toews, Horvat
Overall a solid roster.
Goalie was obviously weak, but we knew that.
D, aside from the top pair, was pretty invisible and needs more difference makers.
Up front, I thought Wilson was great, Reinhart was ass, and we could have used a bit more speed/skill.
Play that game again 10 times and we win it 9. C’est la vie.

I am somewhat not upset that Canada didn't win gold today, or else we will hear Ron MacLean and the Rogers crew parade the Captain McSavior for the next 4 years!!
Now he is just the same old McLoser

First player id cut with hindsight is Marchand and I was quite supportive of him making the team.
Horvat did better than I thought he would. Bennett was more reckless than I expected. And Wilson was fine to have for those few moments he had.

Which leads to the question of what changes should be made to the roster for the 208 World Cup (assuming they will have one). My guesses:
Returnees:
Travis Sanheim
Cale Makar
Nick Suzuki
Macklin Celebrini
Thomas Harley
Seth Jarvis
Nathan MacKinnon
Sidney Crosby
Mitch Marner
Connor McDavid
Shea Theodore
In:
Connor Bedard
Beckett Sennecke
Wyatt Johnston
Alexis Lafreniere
Dylan Guenther
Brandt Clarke
Owen Power
Mason McTavish
Matthew Schaefer
Noah Dobson
Quinton Byfield
Sam Montembeault
Out:
Devon Toews
Sam Bennett
Sam Reinhart
Bo Horvat
Brandon Hagel
Tom Wilson
Josh Morrissey
Colton Parayko
Mark Stone
Brad Marchand
Drew Doughty
Jordan Binnington
Note: I think/hope Zane Parekh will be ready for the 2030 Olympics but even that would be a stretch since team Canada really struggles to bring young players but especially young defencemen. He would have to develop really quickly into a top pairing defenceman to have a shot at a roster spot on team Canada in two years to play in the World Cup.

In the key semi final, while down within under 10 to go, Marchand threw Saros off clearly by crashing the net and Theodore scored 5 seconds later to tie the game.
Exactly what he was brought in to do exactly that, if even just once, to make a difference and he did it in a big moment.
Bennett tried to do the same in the first period that game and got a penalty.
Picking those guys and Wilson didn’t throw anything else off and any sort of skilled replacement wouldn’t have provided anything missing. Hagel and Reinhart and even guys like Suzuki and Horvat were proof of that.
