Cooper's a good coach, but we could have had a better one for what we needed.
|
Because with you it's always about the Panthers.
Cooper is one of the top coaches in the game, and was coming off the 4 nations win with this same group. You really think they were going to swap him out?

Ya but we think Nate is hurt. Sure there’s lots of blame to go around but mcdavid is the captain and laid an egg for the 3rd time in the biggest game of his career.

I like Maurice a ton. He's one of my favorite coaches.
But you are being incredibly slanted here and really working the numbers to suit your weird argument.

Cherry picked? Last three season because we're trying to win now, not 5 years ago.
Should we get Glenn Sather because 5 Cups?

It’s all three, plus Celebrini. They had a late power play and 3v3 and the big boys didn’t get it done. Not for lack of opportunity, just didn’t make the play.

And in the OT, he was singularly, the most ineffective and damaging player.
That isn't bias

Come on. You intentionally looked at the last 3 years to favor your argument.
And going back 5 years, or 10 years even is not unreasonable when looking at coaches.
Yes. Cherry picked. And very obviously.
If you want to use recency, then how much weight to you give to Cooper's 4 nations win? That must count too then right?

And doing it 1 on 3 also means you have two defenders behind you.
So, as Makar being on of those two defenders retreats back after possession looks to have been given up as opposed to making a pinch inside the blue line, it ends up being a nothing play for the Americans because Hughes likely doesn’t jump up into the play because Makar is back in the neutral zone, not still in the US zone.
|
I’m not advocating that Makar nor MacKinnon defended it great, but anyone arguing that the defending Wasnt a direct result of McDavid turning the puck over (twice) is out to lunch.

Crosby shows his class. Doesn't even play and still takes time for an interview. Could easily skip with a valid excuse.

I agree with all that except the player selection thing, I'm just saying the coaches do wear some of this because they didn't put the team in the best possible place to succeed. The fact that the team was talented enough to win anyway doesn't change that.
As for player selection, if the Czechs had held on for a 3-2 win (even a tainted one), or the Fins, we'd be having a much longer conversation about that, and both of those games were nail-bitingly close when they really should not have been. As it stands, not having Bedard was an obvious miss. The rest is debatable.
But the brass has to stop doing this. They left Crosby at home in 06 and the team lost badly. They left Stamkos at home in 2010 and it nearly paid for it. They leave Bedard at home here and nearly lose to CZE and FIN before ultimately scoring one goal in the gold medal game. They have to bring every game-breaking talent available, even if they think "well he might only be the 13th forward".

Makar doesn’t pinch and or McKinnon wins the puck battle and it’s a nothing sequence. That pure fact. Celebrini missed some shots in OT to give up possession but the other two guys didn’t make the mistakes/choices Makar and McKinnon made in that sequence.

If they score on the extended 5 on 3 or the Celebrini breakaway or the Toews open net or the MacKinnon open net we're all celebrating after a fairly dominant performance.
Sports can be cruel. They were the better team, by a lot, and lost. It sucks, but just the way she goes sometimes. Thank goodness for early morning beers.

Great moment with the Gaudreau kids in the team picture. Sport can be so great.

Anyone upset about this loss and are trying to place blame needs to take a step back and give their head a shake.
I wanted Canada to win it all as much as anyone, but if you cant appreciate how the US shared this win with Gaudreau’s family, then you should probably take a moment to reevaluate your priorities.
If anyone needed this win, it was them. A gold medal means nothing compared to how it makes me feel to see that family have a chance to smile and celebrate.
Absolute masterclass move by Chucky and his teammates. Bravo to them, and bravo the Canadians who played a fantastic game against a top tier opponent. Everyone involved in this game should feel nothing but pride.
What a ride, my heart is full. ❤️

Lost on a shift where your 3 best players all make brutal mistakes. Canada obviously lost the game in regulation and the pressure clearly got to our guys in the intermission. Americans were waiting to play that OT on the counter and our top guns lacked patience to wait for the opening and got punished bad.
Canada depth was supposed to be an advantage and outside of Horvat winning faceoffs the bottom lines really did not do enough
