I don't really care if anyone wants to cheer for Tkachuk over McDavid or whatever.

But given the political climate over the past year, I think it is a little tone deaf to not expect some backlash if you are coming on to a Calgary Flames message board and cheering for the USA today.

I can deal with backlash but the personal attacks are getting pretty tiring. Once the forum has their whipping boy it's hard to escape. I'm a fan of this club just like anyone else.

Contemplated the all-nighter. Contemplated a sports bar. But, I want to enjoy this one with my 4 kids, 20 down to 12. The two born before 2010 were too young to remember it.

So, at nearly 2am in Calgary, I am going to try and have a "nap", wake up at 5am, make some breakfast, and get the kids up. Wife says to let her sleep - I tried to tell her she'll regret that later!

A picture of a player in the game with the flag of the country that's playing against you?

Do you make the same point when cali panthers fan or whiteout post about their teams? No you don't so why the double standard?

Cali is actually American and he doesn't post stupid troll images and then cry when people call him on it. Like what did you expect? You get in fights defending Trump on here for a week (lol get a life) and then on the day of the big game post Trump lover wrapped in the American flag in the game thread.

Like others have said post what you like this isn't a facist country like the one you bootlick for but don't act like you weren't trying to get a reaction.

The game was very even, the score doesn't to Slovakia justice. A one goal game until fairly close to the end with Slovakia still being consistently dangerous. Saros had another great game, Finland makes it 3-1, Slovakia is forced to open up and Finland immediately makes it 4-1 and then adds two empty netters to make the score ugly for Slovakia.

Slovaks did lose the plot after the 3-1 goal, but all in all the game was actually much closer than the score. Finland was noticeable better, but not by a crazy amount, it wasn't anything like the absolute dominance Canada had over Czechia and especially Finland in the late stages of those games.

Oliver Kapanen was just flat out better than Rantanen has been in this tournament though. The first line looked the best it had been all tournament. Of course really small sample size, so you can't say anything definite.

Most likely Rantanen was playing hurt. It's one of those tough situations, where you can obviously see the logic of having him, and Rantanen still out up points and everything, scored a big goal against Canada, but maybe the team would have actually been better without him?

Speculation is easy.

That’s awesome! Wish I was back in town to watch with my dad but I’ll be streaming it late tonight from Tokyo!

I wonder if tonight was one of the quietest nights nationwide for law enforcement as people retire early to get up for the game.

I’m stirring in the middle of the night in anticipation of a 4:00 am alarm so I can walk the dog before the game starts (the only way to ensure I don’t miss any of the game). Stoked and nervous all at the same time. Go Canada!

Going to watch at one of the local pubs with my cousin, brother, an uncle and a couple of his friends. Super exciting.

The game time for this gold medal game is the same as it was in Turin, Italy for the 2006 game. The IOC and IIHF have the final say and Bettman has admitted that those two groups won't listen to the NHL.

That's a shame given it was his last kick at the can. Marchand and Mackinnon reportedly playing through injury too.
