Default Which Olympic hockey teams would be Cup favourites?

If you could put any one of the Olympic teams into the Stanley Cup playoffs, which of them would be the favourites to win it? Assume only one team is added at a time, and ignore that players on the Olympic team would not be available for their NHL teams. Basically just a team ranking exercise.

I imagine the current semi-finalists are better than any NHL team. Czechia? Not sure. Haven’t really seen much of the other teams.

Probably Czechia or Slovakia as they might be under the cap.

Yeah, that would be an interesting question. What would each country's best cap compliant roster look like?

Canada could take Bedard, Celebrini and Schaefer. 3 high end ELCs.

Finland tonight would have been pretty close to cap compliant. Finnish players tend to come cheap for what they bring :P

12 forwards, 6 D and 1 goalie puts them 200k over the cap, unless I did my math wrong.

Swap out Teräväinen (who was pretty useless anyway) for Oliver Kapanen (who was the 13th forward but didn't play) and make Korpisalo the backup, and that's a cap compliant roster from just the guys Finland brought to the Olympics.

If we find a cheaper backup goalie, let's say Justus Annunen who's the backup in Nashville, that leaves you money to upgrade Hintz to Barkov.

Canada/USA/Sweden/Finland would be cup favorites. Russia if we’re counting them would be a favorite as well imo. Worse teams than the Czechs have won cups but they’d be an underdog.

Slovaks despite looking great at this tourney would be the 2015 Flames, would take a series against a bad team but otherwise just happy to be there. Same with the Swiss. The Germans and the rest wouldn’t make the playoffs in the first place.

I disagree. Their center and defense are too weak.

I think that any of the big 4 would be a cup favourite
Canada $189M roster
USA $199M roster
Sweden $161M roster
Finlad $116M roster

Especially if they're all healthy and Finland gets Barkov, Sweden adds the likes of Carlson, Eklund, Ekholm, Backlund, and Brodin. Even team Russia might be a favourite, but their C depth would be a problem.

Schaefer instead of Doughty saves a bunch. But who comes out for Bedard? Point at $9.5?

There's still a lot of cutting needed though.

Fun 10 minutes chucking some names in while Slovakia gets thumped.

McDavid - MacKinnon - Celebrini
Hagel - Crosby - Mantha
Fantilli - Bedard - Sennecke
McMann - Tavares - Kindel
Minten - O'Reilly

Harley - Makar
Morrissey - Parayko
Schaefer - Clarke
Raddysh

Thompson
Allen

$94,861,780

In deep, deep, trouble being compliant for next season though!

The Americans could've done something similar with the likes of Lane Hutson, Cutter Gauthier, Will Smith, Dustin Wolf, and Logan Cooley, all still on their ELCs this year.

Basically, having McDavid and Mackinnon on the same team screws your cap.

Bedard / Celebrini / Schaefer offset that. You need to have both of those players on the roster.

I think a more interesting exercise would be creating a poll of Canada team A / B / C and USA A / B / C. Making cap compliant rosters.

I think your math is wrong. At 11 forwards, 6 D, and 2 goalies they were already at 105M
