For all the quislings that were scared it appears like Trump Always Chickens Out (TACO) was on Sunday not Tuesday. You can always count on a TACO but it used to be TACO Tuesdays. I hope all the conservative commentators who were quite scared on Friday can breath a little easier, turns out we did not have to bend the knee quite as quickly as they wanted to.

Quote:
KARL: Trump gave Canada a green light for a deal with China, then 9 days later he's saying, 'That's it. 100% tariffs.'

BESSENT: Well, no. There's a possibility of 100% tariffs if they do a free trade deal.

I just hope we put on our big boy pants now and learn to be more self-sufficient, all the while creating jobs here. Trump isn't going to be around forever, and I can totally see his own people who voted for him getting aggravated with his antics. He's getting bolder and bolder and it seems to be a matter of time before he doesn't have any more friends to make his plan (whatever it is), work.

I don't think we need to be self sufficient, we just need to be 'not the US sufficient', at least LNG to the east coast, greater ties to the EU, somehow the US makes it's military work with it's economy, we should find a way to copy some of that, having a viable military shouldn't be just a net economic drain.

This isn’t exactly breaking news. We’ve known for months now that those tariffs aren’t coming off unless: a) Congress suddenly grows a spine (not likely) or b) the Supreme Court rules against the tariffs, which shockingly is likely according to most legal experts. However, the SC keeps delaying their ruling. I don’t know what they’re scared of. They have lifetime appointments FFS. It’s not like Trump can fire them if they rule against him.

The US Supreme Court almost always releases their decisions in May or early June, this won't be any different.

They release rulings at other times though, and there was speculation that they were set to rule on this the week of January 19th, I believe.

Unfortunately this will only be symbolic, as Trump will just veto it as soon as it crosses his desk.

Still though, I think this vote shows that maybe a few Republicans are finally getting sick of Trump’s stupid & destructive bulls*** and are starting to push back, which is a positive.

Haha, word this morning is that Trump is talking about cutting steel and aluminum tariffs because they make things for expensive for US consumers.

We should put on an export tax for them.

Lying trump lackey Hassett on new study from NY Fed showing 90% of tariff burden is being shouldered by US firms & consumers: "The paper is an embarrassment. It's I think the worst paper I've ever seen in the history of the Fed system. The people associated with this paper should presumably be disciplined."

The Supreme Court rules Trump’s tariffs are illegal.

https://www.cnn.com/2026/02/20/polit...-court-tariffs

Quote:
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion and the court agreed 6-3 that the tariffs exceeded the law.

“The president asserts the extraordinary power to unilaterally impose tariffs of unlimited amount, duration, and scope,” Roberts wrote for the court. “In light of the breadth, history, and constitutional context of that asserted authority, he must identify clear congressional authorization to exercise it.”

From the Globe and Mail

“The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down a key pillar of Donald Trump’s protectionist trade agenda, ruling that the President acted illegally in using one of his emergency economic powers to impose sweeping tariffs on trade partners last year.

The decision, released Friday, is a major rebuke of the President on a signature economic policy. However, it’s only a partial – and likely temporary – setback for the administration.

Trade experts expect Mr. Trump to rapidly rebuild his tariff wall using other legal tools. And the sectoral tariffs on steel, aluminum, automobiles and lumber, which are hitting Canadian trade the hardest, aren’t affected by the decision and will remain in place.

I wonder what "other legal tools" are... and if they are in fact "legal".

I assume this means he can't bypass congress but who knows with this administration.

I almost want all the tarrifs to remain.
American's don't care what Trump does to any other country. Feeling pain on their own pockets is actually the only way they'll wake up to his BS.
