Conroy is transparent with the player. The player in turn is transparent with his teammates. Even in a sell-off, the vibes stay positive and players support one another.

100%. It's wonderful to see. We haven't see this level of GM/player trust/respect in decades. A rebuild is the ultimate test of that and the players still seem to be very cordial and happy with how Conroy deals with them.

I don't understand this frequent notion on CP that if you don't get what you want for Coleman this deadline that he'll obviously get this years offers or better next deadline. He's been great, but there's tons of factors including the old "father time is uncontested" and the buyer and seller market is fluid each season.

I read what getoverit wrote a bit differently. Thought it was if the current offers are a 2nd and whatever, that should be a return the Flames could also get next season as well. For this season, the return should be higher. It sounds similar to what you also posted. I agree with both of your statements.

CP speaks as if next deadline is equal to this deadline if we don't get "our price met". I mean Kadri has already quit this season and there's still allegedly a market where we could get a decent return. You DO NOT sit on an aging asset that is playing disinterested in a sellers market where you're one of the only teams selling and teams are interested in acquiring him, until next deadline, at all, imo. That is dumb.

100 percent. The Flames have gotten really fortunate this deadline / year as a whole. The risk of Kadri/Coleman getting injured, falling back production wise, next years trade deadline turning to a buyers market etc is not worth the bump. With the cap increase and a very weak free agent market, this feels like the first deadline in a while where players with term is not a negative for trade value.

In the case of both players, they were both UFA signings. There's some sunk cost fallacy with Kadri due to the Monahan cap trade for a 1st, but in either case, the fact that these players have a market at all is somewhat astounding to me. A 34 year with 1.5 years left at 4.9 million and a 35 year old with 3.5 years at $7 million are not normally trade-able players.

I really like both players. I worry about the Flames cutting too deep, but unless you want the players for mentoring / sheltering, the time to move them is now.
