Does anyone know why Switzerland (5 points) finished as the 5th seed, and Sweden (6 points) finished as the 7th seed?

Yes, and they're too slow. Servelli was on with Steinberg yesterday and he predicted a Swiss win based on speed alone.

Goal differential tie breaker in the Swedish pool ... they finished third in the pool pushing them down to 7th.

2nd place teams ahead of 3rd place teams.

That wasn't a lack of effort for Canada.

The Czechs bottle things up and make it much more difficult to score goals. You either join them and have an eventless hockey game or you push it and cause turnovers.

Glad they survived.

Well that was about as dramatic as it gets, what an incredible way to start the day. Marner's goal had some shades of the iconic Mario vs North Stars goal. Also very satisfying watching the Suzuki tip-in in slow motion.

I'm going to refrain from being over critical because if history has taught us anything momentum can shift in an international tournament in lightning speed, IMO in the Olympics the tournament flips on it's head once you go from the group stage to elimination as we've seen plenty times before. I think this was a good kick in the dick for us to face a tough opponent in the Czech's who looked like a completely different team vs the opening game and gave them a good test when they were off their game and maybe getting a little complacent.

Credit to Czechia, it's impressive what they've been able to achieve in international hockey with a much smaller population to keep up with the big dogs at the youth & senior level, and I also respect their style of play & how they approach the game overall.

Also Dostal can steal games. He’s done it with the Ducks. Markstrom or 38 year old Genoni shouldn’t be as big of a concern.

Scoring with six players on the ice didn't hurt

Breaking balls about your homer top 2

McDavid has been good, his third and OT weren't great though. That line should dominate they seemed to be on their heels. Lucky for Canada they have superstars on every line.

On an unrelated note about punching above their weight. Im also amazed that Norway leads the all time Winter Olympics medal count with a population of 5.6 million. Wild.

That Marner goal was the goal you dream about scoring when you are Canadian kid playing hockey or street hockey.

What's the point of this post?

You don't agree that Canada had a hard time generating anything outside of the top line? You thought they played well enough to win gold today?

And it's irrelevant because he's correct.

McDavid has been Canada's best player, Celebrini has been their second best player.

Don't think there is much debate either TBH.

Czechia has 10 million people, about the same as Sweden, that's not small for a hockey country. Finland and Slovakia are both like 5.5M. Switzerland has 9M.

Top 2? I don’t like the Sharks. I live in San Jose but find their fans annoying because they only like them when they are good.
